With SMP enabled we see that Conroe holds an even larger 31% performance advantage and with it disabled, the unreleased CPU was 29% faster. If anything, Intel’s own demo was a little more conservative on Conroe and definitely not optimized to make AMD look bad.

Conroe based on Older Tech: Intel Core Microarchitecture.

Anandtech says they retested the AMD system Intel supplied with the newer BIOS that supports the FX60, they got the EXACT same numbers....only F.E.A.R. saw a 7FPS increase.....

http://anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2716&p=2

EDIT/// There was one thing that favored the Conroe, in the F.E.A.R. Anandtech accidentally set the Conroe system to 1024x768 while the FX60 system was set to 1280x1024, go to page 4 in the link above to see the actual test results, Conroe still smoked the FX60 but atleast it was a much more fair fight.

I know, its like riding a roller coaster if you're an Intel fan, first they release the benches and we're like OMG it OWNED the FX60, then the AMD fans rebutt with their claims that the systems were unfair/unbalanced, then Anandtech retests as fairly as possible and the results are the same, in fact Intel did a bit better overall the second time around

I think any AMD fans out there thinking of turning this into a flamewar better remember that:

A) From the dawn of time until the AMD Athlon, Intel had always been the better performer, then with the introduction of the Athlon XP, Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2, AMD became the CLEAR winner, now its Intel's turn once again.

and

B) AMD will likely regain the lead come early 2007 with their next generation 65nm architecture so just be patient, this is our 9 months in the limelight LOL! (its about time, AMD has been ahead for what, 7 years now??)

After the Intel seminar I attended last week I must say they finally have a better chip coming the AMD has now. However I must point out that the Conroe will not be out until at least the first week of July and is based on a totally new architecture then the P4. While the AMD tech has been out for along time already and as a company has had a one up on Intel for around 3 years. Please do not see this as a 'fanboy or flame' post as I could care less who has the best chip out.

Well look at it this way, it may be like a torn ACL to AMD, but if Intel did not come around like this, we would have the same tech.

With compition breeds better, cheaper, more efficient technology.

I think it is awesome that their is some legitimate competion between the two companies. Now AMD actually has a reason to develop really sweet new hardware again. Plus that will lead to Intel trying the same. I'm glad Intel is finally getting back into the game. What the hell have they been thinking for the past 3 years?
