AD700. Better... everything minus the microphone which can be replaced by some simple attachable microphone such as the zalman.

You will most likely get biased answers here. It extremely rare to find a truthful person that has owned and listened to both the kave and the AD700's. Ad700 owners will ASSUME the kave is a pile of crap because its a headset. A few around here have been happy with their kaves but again they probably haven't tried the AD700's.

Weigh the pro's and con's of each. Would you prefer the mic of a headset to a secondary mic option like a clip on? Do you want the surround sound effect with multiple drivers in each ear or basic stereo? Are you worried about sound leaking into your room? I would probably go with the AD700's because it is cheaper and better fits my preferences. That doesn't mean the kaves are bad, they might sound great and be better suited for you.

Don't waste your time with the AD700's.

I bought them and they sounded alright. Then I went to a friends house and tried my current Razer Carcharias and holy crap the Razer's blew the AD700's out of the water. (Same Creative x-Fi Titanium cards at the time, now I have an Asus D2X). I usually listen to mostly metal and nu-metal, and the Razer's are excellent performers, while the AD700's were just ok. They were confortable though, but so is the Carcharias.

A lot of people here will just recomment the AD700's blindly because they got warped into buying them, and since the AD700's were the first thing they ever listened to, or comparing them to a dead system, think its a gift from God. Well they aren't.

I'm not an audiophile, but I know that metal should NOT sound like a pyro from TF2 talking, it has rhythm, not mppphmpphmmhphphphmmphmphmh.

Get the Roccat Kave, I've played with a review unit that really sounded quite nice. Definately better than the AD700's. Plus I was using preset settings on it's little control board, I'm sure if I tweaked it to my liking it would beat out even my current Carcharias

TL;DR version: Get the Kave!

My brother Owns the Carcharias and they are VERY nice you can sound almost every detail and they are extremely light and comfortable. I can only compare them to very cheap other sets though.

Hi,
I know this is a lil late but it may help for people who still want to choose between the two.

I own both Roccat Kaves and AD700s.

Both have pros and cons over each other. Now I’m no audio expert so pls excuse my loose terminology.
The Kaves have more power than the AD700. By that I mean… when I turn the volume up on the AD700s, they start to distort. I can still get a nice loud clear sound from them but the Kaves can go a lot louder without distorting.
The audio positioning is pretty much equal between the two but the sound stage is a lil better with the AD700’s and the AD700s are open phones making them (to me personally) produce a more “you are actually there†feeling. The Kaves are closed but definitely have clearer, deeper base and nice sharp high tones making them great for music. I have noticed that I can hear mid tones more clearly with the AD700s

If I was to use both… I’d use the AD700s for gaming and the Kaves for music and movies. I don’t do this however because it’s a pain in the arse to switch phones around all the time so I just stick with the AD700s.

Again I’m no expert and this is just my own preference. Hope this helps anyone still needed to choose between the two.
