GAAARRR. routers and cs. and usb things

Thread Starter
Just got a new router.

When I try and play CS:S, I get laaaaaggg. Like its my normal 40-50 on my regular server that I play on, when im standing still. As soon as I move (ie try and send data and then receive it) or shoot I get like a 150-400 ping.

Have set up static Ip's for each computer and forwarded the nessessary ports. Still doesnt work. I even tried turning on the DMZ temporarily.

Im thinking it might be the USB-ethernet adapter im using. An ethernet cable comes from my router and goes into the usb converter then into one of my pc usb ports.

I should really be using the onboard network card, but it is fubar. Tried every possible fix to get it working. blah...

I HATE NETWORKING

Thought I'd get that off my chest. Anyway...
Does anyone know if those usb adapters cause lag? Like is the usb bus slower than the ethernet pci bus? Or does it cause more lag etc etc.

Thanks for anyhelp

you should probably be able to pick up a cheap 10/100 card somewhere. I don't have any experience with the USB adapters, but a real nic wouldn't be a bad thing to try if you could get one cheap enough. If you pick one up from CompUSA or something like that and it doesn't help you could always return it.

Ive got an old card aswell, and it didnt work on that either. Its not the card, its windows. It can't connect to the DHCP server. I tried everything to get it working, but in the end i just bought the usb adapter.

edit: only just noticed. I got my first flame
