I dunno you you want dual core go ahead but technology/software hasnt caught up yet, like when AMD released 64 bit and there were currently no 64 bit OS's and even now, I tried 64 windows and it sucks, random errors no driver support etc. so I guess just go for what is good now

try this link and compare your CPU

What are you talking about...random errors? x64 Windows XP is just Windows Server 2003 x64 w/ all the fun XP goodies turned on by default. It is rock solid.

I have an idea, wait for AM2 like others have said but get 1gig of RAM for your current computer and reformat and install XP, I did that for my 6 year old Dell Optiplex and I was shocked at how much faster it was (It hadn't been formatted in the entire 6 years I had owned it LOL! infact I dont even think I ever defragged that POS )

Well, it's a pretty fresh install as it is (month or two), but I could just get some RAM, it would probably knock a lot of life back into this thing.

The only drawback is, "Supports up to 2GB PC1600/PC2100/PC2700 DDR SDRAM"

So I'd have to pay an arm and a leg for some crappy RAM I'll only use for a few months.
