And why exactly do you need to do this with a Q9300?

cuz i was stupid when i ordered my cpu.. i wanted a 9550 and a gtx260 one and a half yrs ago.. but the vendor did not have that cpu so aked if he can give me 9300 and a gtx285 instead.. the 285 was 350$ but i paid 290$. now i wait to get a 9550 or 9650 to go for 4ghz. i also got an old e6600 which i could theoretically push to 4ghz also.. but it was getting too hot with stock h50.
i think ill replace the h50 completely and use it for OCing my second rig with a 9600gt...

Umm... 7c drop with a 120mm and a 240mm rad with a fairly large res?

You need a bigger pump, because you're obviously not getting enough flow. You'd actually probably get better temps if you took out the 240mm rad.

Your load temps should probably be under 50c with all of that hardware in there. I get similar results from my i5 750 with a stock H50 and a 35C ambient...

35C ambient! Are you working on your computer in the back yard??? That's 95F!

As far as using a different liquid - I'm not a watercooling person, but I imagine water is going to be the best thing unless you plan on outfitting your system with a compressor and some r-134a refrigerant. Oil is going to have a high viscosity so it will only exacerbate your problem. I'm not aware of any other options.

I would suggest removing the stock 120 to see if you don't get equal or better temperatures. I'm willing to bet having it on doesn't even make up for the decrease in flow. The stock h50 alone does a decent job of cooling my q9550, so I can't imagine why you would need more than double the radiator area to do a great job of cooling the processor in the first place.

bought the most expensive parts from forum members. got a black ice III pro triple rad for $35 shipped and a Swiftech 350 pump for $35 shipped, used a swiftech micro res for $20 off craigslist, tubing was $7, i already had 4 fans so i just needed 2 more, so that was only $10. the most expensive part was the water block, the only thing i payed full price for.

only fools pay full price for brand new things when you can get just as good slightly used things for a lot less
