I3 Integrated vs. 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS

Thread Starter
I just picked up another i3 bundle for my friend at Fry's and now have question to ask before putting everything together.
Will the i3's integrated graphics run better than a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS? Another friend has a spare but I want to see which one does better before hand.

My friend will be running this computer for mainly word processing but will be trying to use this computer to play light games like Atlantica.

The minimum requirements are on this link

If you can post benchmarks or such that would be great!
Thanks!

I played for a good 2 weeks of that game using a 7350 LE.

The 8300gs is more than enough, no idea on the i3 integrated graphics though.

Also like to mention this was on a 19" with 1280x1024
Not sure what res your friend will be playing and if the 8300 can handle anything bigger.

Go for the i3 IGP. I have a laptop that has it and it can play Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2 at 720P resolution at medium to high settings.

Close call. Honestly, if he's going to be primarily using it for office apps, etc, then I wouldn't even bother to install the 8300. It won't offer tangible performance increase at any settings that are going to be playable for either solution, and it will just add a bit of noise and heat to the equation.

The 8300GS should be faster but not by much.
The graphic on the i3 is actually a X4500 with 2 mroe shaders.
Yet, if you can reach the graphic speed on the dual core i5, you can come close or even go faster than the 8300GS.

I agree, the difference between the two will be pretty minimal. You're talking low spec integrated vs low spec add-in card. Stick with the onboard and go get something like an 8500/9400/GT210 or better. You won't need much more than those for low end gaming. My 8500 handled TF2 at sensible frame rates @1280x1024 with the details turned down a bit.
