Windows XP Ram Limit - Page 8

Hi!

At the moment, no. Although I never had issues with USB, I wasn't able to resolve issues with data corruption (for example writing to external SCSI CDRW drive caused audio glitches with sound card and defective write) - don't know if that's a driver or patch issue. Should try Server 2003 datacenter edition and compare - if the glitches are still there with 'proper' PAE system.

Workaround for me currently is Primo Ramdisk - I've created 12GB ramdrive and put my swapfile there. Now I can't tell between swapping and actual ram usage, everything's fast even if task manager shows more than 4GB in use.

I don't really understand how the Ramdrive thingy works to break the 4 Gig barrier.
You just patch your kernel and hal and install the ramdrive and that's it ?

My XP is already booting from Ramdisk and I'm not sure if this would cause other strange problems with the PAE patch.

At the moment I'm running XP on my netbooks that only support 2 gigs of RAM so there's no way for me to test the patch at the moment.

I just bought a new ITX motherboard with support for 8 gigs and it's compatible with XP (drivers) so it would really be stupid to be stuck with 3.5 GB only.

Great thread! I have been trying your suggestions and they do work (at least on my VM). smile.gif

Now I've just taken a look at the Chinese XP64G 2.1 patch (downloadable here). The executable patches ntkrnlpa and hal.dll on the fly: it doesn't substitute your files with prepatched files, but patches YOUR files (very convenient if you have a localized edition of XP).
Now, the interesting part is that I've done a hex compare between pre-patch and patched files, and I've found out that more strings got patched than we have done here on overclock.net.
I have attached screenshots for both ntkrnlpa and hal.dll. You can see what the Chinese patch does.

What do you think about this?

Of course, that's why this thread exists...

Can anyone provide all the files and what nots,

i am a programmer, so im looking at making these
files into an actual patcher for XP and possibly look at
opening up a private support network for XP and keep it running

im on 130704-0421 : SP3

8GB in System, 3.1GB Limit, 1GB NVidia GT 210 - Entry Level Card.

im in England so i can make an English Patcher for free. or donations of cups of tea smile.gif

i can provide a mirror service to for anyone, so i can give folk direct dl links instead of filesharing sites.
