AMD Athlon X2 3800+ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thread Starter
Running a X2 3800+ on a Asus A8N32 mobo. Stock heatsink and fan kept the CPU at/around 48c-52c. I stalled a Thermaltake Big Typoon Heatsink/fan. Now is goes up and down 38c-41c. Getting 48c-52c with the stock heatsink and fan normal temperatures?

Download and run a program called CPUZ. Take a screenshot of the CPU tab, and post it here. Those temps are high, but if you've OCed and have alot of vCore, it's normal. The Big Typhoon should keep you in the safe temp range.

They don't seem to be super high temps, there are many things that can cause this kind of temps like: bad mounting of the heatsink, low quality thermal paste, lack of planeity of the contact surface of the heatsink, high case temp.
Each one of these things can give you at least 1° extra. Over-all your stock heatsink temp isn't more than 5° higher, so you shouldn't be worried.

Sounds like you have a high room temperature. If so, what is your room temp?

I had load temps of like 54C with stock heatsink but that was with 1.58vcore and dual prime running, if this is stock with normal apps or one prime something ain't right....

hmm this is interesting...Im buying the same chip and I'm interested in overclocking also, I see you have a very similar Pc as to mine, maybe we can learn some things from eachother... I upgraded to 500 watts power what are u running? I also added 3 extra fans, is that good enough for overclocking?I think my heatsink is just a reg AMD 64 compatible. Whats a good way to cool when overclocking? I read in a mag that the amd 64 x2 3800 has all kind of potential to OC. Anyway I dont want to steal your thread here, I just figured since we have similar pc's we could kill 2 birds with one stone, if this bothers you let me know ill start my own thread....

How do i check the temps inside if I dont have a temp guage on my pc? Also how much is that heatsink you got? maybe ill go get one of them...

Replacing the stock fan with a higher CFM unit will improve temps even more!
