Copying DVD's

Thread Starter
Hi, i have a problem where i always seem to scratch up my dvd's (badly). I would like to make back ups of them so i can watch them numerous times. What dvd copying software is the best, and the best at overriding copyrights??

Thanks
Fury

DVD Decryptor to get pass the copy protection and DVDShrink. If you've got DL disks (which are expensive...) you can just get DVD Decryptor and use Nero to copy them. If you want to get the cheaper 4.7Gb disks, use DVDShrink.

The best way to deal with this situation is to get the DVD/CD protectors...the thin film applique that you apply to the disc. It will keep it from getting scratched up. One example:

Do you have any experience with those? Do they tax the laser at all?

I myself have not used them but I know several people who have and they didn't have any issues with them. As to taxing the laser, I don't see how it would be possible. The laser is emitted at a constant energy level/intensity and the reflected beam is what is read. There isn't a change in power required. If it were a problem the only thing that would happen is that it would either skip or quit playing.

Another option is also the disk refinishing kits, but those obviously have a limited amount of use until you start getting into the media. In the case of a really bad disk I would say refinish it and then put a protector on it. The refinishers just buff out the scratches, in case you didn't know...just like lapping a HS.

Why not buy a Disc Doctor or another DVD scratch remover kit.
They works great and remove some nasty scratches.

I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypt. They work just fine on just about every DVD that I own. I backup everything I own onto DVD, and store the flawless originals.
