Why won't my port forwarding work? - Page 3

Does either your friend or you have a switch anywhere between you, I know this may have nothing to do with what your tryin but who knows it may help since i see like you have it a wall.

When im pen testing systems and trying to sniff traffic or port scans sometimes the network switch masks all the traffic i would essentially have to perform a ARP cache poisioning to turn the switch into a hub so it sends all traffic and then i can sniff it.

If there is a network switch somewhere between you two it maybe just maybe doing the same thing in that case you will have to configure the switch to recognise the computers on the network, just a thought.

WAN. When you host it for a WAN you can also connect to it internally (LAN) which is how I know it works. Also, I can't port forward for Ventrilo either.

Nope, no switches. Just PC -> router -> ISP -> his router -> his PC. I'll have another dig around in the router for some settings...

It's not just CoD4, Ventrilo won't forward either. I think my router is just a piece of crap.

If it were me, I would go to the latest firmware or go down one level to test before replacing the router.

There are no more recent firmwares and no previous firmwares. Clonky ISP routers ftl. I would get a third party router but I'm not paying £45 for one...

CMD, Ipconfig, type the last digit of the IP in the IP box on your port forwarding menu, and no reason it shouldn't work.

Some modems are just bad, especially ones that you get for free from your service provider. I could never get minecraft servers to work until I manually set up the IP on my computer and had manually set the DNS, and then it worked but then everyone else in my house would loose internet and I would have to manually set the DNS and IP for their computer in order to connect. My parents don't know anything about computers and they said I broke the internet and wanted me to change it back to how it used to be. So I did and now I still can't have my minecraft servers unless I use that dreaded Hamachi. It's a bummer to be stuck with 4 people cap when I used to handle 15 no problem. I read forums about people who got new modems and setting up servers and port forwarding worked no problem for them afterwards.
