Can someone clarify DX10?

Thread Starter
I have asked this question in a couple of other threads but no one has answered it.

I am confused about DirectX 10. Will the video cards that we are using right now be compatible? I really want to buy a 7900 card, and I want to make sure its gonna last me for a while................

Thanks

Vista will still be compatible with DX9 cards, but you won't get all the eye candy of the desktop eg. reverting back to 2D mode. It will run using emulation, which will cause a performance hit. Similarly for DX10 games when they come out. You can run them, but with a performance hit and none of the DX10 features.

In that article it clearly says Vista will work WITH ALL EYE CANDY with a DX9 card however it CAN make use of DX10 features.

Well it will work pretty fine with DX9 cards but in the DX10 games, you will be a little behind with a DX9 card, i hear the emulation for DX9 to DX10 is prett bad....but thats what i hear, i say wait untill the DX10 cards come out your 6800Ultra is fine
