Probably not a huge deal for anyone here but my meager system got me 3.2 points today for a PCmark 2005 submission.

http://hwbot.org/submission/2337789_

There's a lot of out here just running on air cooling and modest overclocks that contribute small amounts of points individually, but taken together really add up to a lot overall for the team...

Yes it was a pain to even get that benchmark to even complete as it's so old, I had to find and download the Windows Media Player 9 encoder so it would finish the audio test. It also gave me issues doing the web page rendering test on Windows 7.

Was worth the hassle though.

Good job!
That bench is a pain in the butt to get to work right, you have more perseverance than I do. I gave up on it.
The big boys get more points with one 3D sub than I have with all of my subs combined tongue.gif , but every little bit helps the team.
I keep looking for ways to contribute with the hardware I have. For example I came up with a B 73 chip the other day, and it looks like I'm assured 2nd place on the bot because there has been only 1 sub in each bench. Who's got all the golds??? Rasparthe tongue.gif so lookout Ras!.... I'm gunnin for ya ( I'm sure he's worried lol )
At any rate thanks for the contribution to the team and keep it up . Gotta push OCN into 3rd place thumb.gif

As I always say,

Benchmarking is

60% Hardware
35% Knowledge (knowing how the benchmark works, which OS is best, which drivers to use, how to prepare the OS)
5% Luck

Some days stuff doesn't work out. Next morning, it's all coming up gold. Unless you're in Win7 when you should be in XP (!) Or you forgot D3D, or you're using the wrong version of the benchmark (yes different valid versions give different scores).

Or the time when I couldn't bench for two hours. Everything seemed to work, but no video output. Tried 3 GPUs, two sets of memory, two motherboards, CPUs. Turns out the friggin' DVI cable was screwed. :sigh:

So when you say 'only just got it to work it's so old', to us the seasoned veterans, that's just called 'benchmark preparation' smile.gif PC05 requires more than most.

Well I think you have a chance there, those subs were all done quick and dirty under air. Only the CPUz was done under Cascade when I was testing something else. I only even picked up that chip because it unlocked quad and ran stable as x3. Nice chip, probably going into my NAS if I don't just sell it.

lol, some would argue that its more like this:

60% Luck
35% Hardware
5% Knowledge

tongue.gif

Though, a benchmark like PCmark05 has turned into 60% knowledge. You just have to take your time and resist the urge to push to hard to quick, which quickly turns into everything dieing without any results...

It does boil down to preparation. Even the best prep can turn into 4 hours of testing and troubleshooting, only to find out it was just a bad mount.... It's difficult trying to explain to a non-overclocker, that an overclocker will likely be better at troubleshooting hardware issues then most other computer geeks out there. Even though overclocking is growing, I'm still surprised at what a small % of the population has heard the word 'overclock' before. I'm going to school with a bunch of geeks right now and when I start talking about my hobby, I get the deer-n-headlights look.
