Cheap as Chips

Thread Starter
Hi guys, im Rune from wales and this is my first build, my main objective was to buy parts that are future upgrade friendly and with as little cost as possible. After a few months of stock i've finally started Oc'ing my system and to be honest i wish i spent a bit more, ie : graphics card and ram, but considering it all cost me just under 470quid its not too bad. I dont really know what im doing but so far its working and im continiously getting that bit more out of it. My mission as i have accepted is to get to around 2.8ghz (1ghz OC) from the 3000 venice (which is a dream to oc, never had any temperature problems) on the abit fatal1ty sli mobo with the very helpfull and totally necessary guru panel. I hope i can be a part of this community and get help as well as help others. Any suggestions on good oc'ing ram and Gfx cards would be really appreciated. Thanks for your time guys Rune

memory wise i would go for 'well known' manafacturer such as gskill, crucial mushkin, ocz .et.c

with a memory speeds of pc4200 or above which is equivelent to 250mhz.
allows you to OC to 250mhz for sure and sometimes above these speeds.

and for gfx card i would go for a nvidia 7800gtx if poss.or the lower model 7800gt (if you have the money to splash out maybe the new 7900 cost about the same as the 7800gt i hear. to make it a little more future proof, but in computer hardware you are never future proof. )

if you want to overclock your cpu by 1ghz i think you may need to buy some aftermarket air cooling HSF or get a water cooler unit.
as your stock HSF may not be adequete.

and you want to stay below 55 -60 degrees c for the CPU temp, i think it is this value.

make sure you check out the Faq guides in this forum to check how to OC safely and sensibly.!

enjoy your stay here i have!! haha

Thanks for the information papapak and the welcome people appreciated.
@uberjon I had the gfx card from dabs discounted due to missing cd and
cable and the rest i had from mainly scan with freebies like the ram. I already
owned the 250gb hd, monitor and OS from my late pc, rip (which is fundamentaly the same pc mr microsoft lol). sorry for the confusion in my earlier
post regarding the cost.
@cokker i dont have the name but i got the orange tan if thats what your
after lol
