AC nV5 Rev. 2 vs 3

Thread Starter
Hey, i was wondering what the exact difference is between the two revisions

(1. is the initial release and for Agp only)

2. is for 6800/gt/ultra also pci-e

3. is for all, incl. 7800gt/gtx

now, the only difference i have noticed is that the rev.3 uses a 4-pin (stepless volt for fan aka intel775 setup) instad of the normal 2-pin on rev. 2. I have heard rumors about the backplate being different,

but what exactly is the difference here?

I am asking because i am almost 99% positive that with a few easy modifications, one could make the Rev.2 fit on a 7800GTX

thanx for your time

yours sinful, mopeygoth

The back plate is different. It covers the ram on the back side(rev2).

okay thanx, so since the rev3 doesn't use screws to tighten the backplate, but just thermal-goo; i could leave the original backplate on and still use the rev2?

I installed a 2nd gtx-card just few minutes ago, it's a gainward golden sample and it's noisy compared to the other card with the ac5r3 installed

i see you got the hiper580 modular psu! how is it going for you? i kinda fell in love with the design and idea..

The rev 3 does use screws to attach the back plate.

Rev3

Rev2

The hiper is a very nice PSU. But I've heard of a few problems with the non Export Models.

hmm.. i didn't mean the "cross"-backplate, because that uses four screws of course. But the memory-heatsink-backplate - the screws for that one (memory) doesn't fit at all, hence none is included in the package. not sure if we are talking about the same thing

sound cool, how do you mean non-export?
(this is the one i've been looking at: http://vcore.dk/shop/productinfo.asp?id=20009 )

so, what you are saying is that the front of the cooler will fit on an 7800, including the mounting plate on the back, but the memory-backplate (heatspreader) will not fit on an 7800?

Correct the Rev2 back plate would touch some of the circuitry on a 7800...
