BF2 & Ram

Hey all!

So, I have 512mb (another stick of 1024 on the way)...
I'm forced to run BF2 on LOW.. This is also because of my crappy video card.

My question... I'll have 1.5GB ram next week... Will this improove my BF2 performance alot? Like.. maybe allowing me to play medium-low? My friend said BF2 is a ram intensive game. more ram = better performane, but my video card is also lacking behind... I mean, right now.. BF2 uses the pagefile like CRAZY, especially when loading a map. Will i see a BIG difference in.. frame rate with 1.5GB?

I'm also wondering whats a GOOD setup for BF2? I'm debating over a x800, 6600, 6800GS. I'm low on cash, so I'll get what I can afforde.

Any suggestions/comments would be greatfull.

Ram will deffinatley help you out, ALOT. Your graphics card will hold you back a bit too but your assumption on medium-low settings will most likely be correct.Oh and your frames will come up a bit too.

The extra 1GB will help a lot, and your best bet is probably the 6800GS out of those that you mentioned

Yeah, now I seem to be looking at the PNY 6800 GT, just becase its cheaper. Dose anyone know if PNY makes good stuff? I've honestly never heard of them. I heard of eVGA, XFX, BGF, but what the hell is PNY?

It's not that it will help your average frame rate much but it will help the lag when it has to load a different part of the map.

PNY mainly make Quadros, reputable, don't hesitate to go with them.

Theres HORRIBLE frame rate loss when the game realizes "HEY I'M OUT OF MEMEORY, LETS USE THE SLOW PAGE FILE!!!" I go from 45fps to 5-10fps.

I assume that will clear up with the 1.5GB..

Good to hear, but why is PNY so much cheaper than all the other manufactures?

I just upgraded from 1GB to 2GBs on wednesday and it allowed me to finally play on high textures with less lag than before.

I'm planning on getting another 1GB later on, and then I'll dump my 512 out and dual channel with 2x1GB.

Fishie36, hows the X800? My friend has one and hes saying its the best thing ever... any feedback you can give me?

X800? Well... mine is one step down from the fastest X800 ever made, even though I do run it at that speed. I can play with all settings on high, 4Xaa 1280X1024 and get 40-80 fps (it varies quite a bit but usually it's around 60). Also my card (the XT) is discontinued so it won't be an option for you.
