The time has come!

Old specs:
  • Athlon XP 2000+ (at 1875MHz 24/7)
  • 768MB OCZ EL DDR400 and Kingston value DDR333 (512/256)
  • PCCHIPS M811LU
  • PNY 6600 256MB
New specs:Dad bought GPU for $60!
cheap, but it goes in the Dell, so I'm happy!
Then, when my job kicks in, (it's been complicated, but I'm starting in Computer repair!! Big $$!) I can get a sub-$200 card on PCI-Express, which I should get a 7900GT for! (by then, at least)

Thats a no go for the 3400 Clawhammer.
The 3400 DTR uses a really crappy stepping and the memory controller is crap, that will only get to about 2.55GHz, or 2.6 if you are lucky. I would go for a 3000 DTR (like mine) or a 3000 Venice E6 754 (which should get to 2.8-3.0 with good air cooling).
Edit: And 754 WILL NOT run dual channel, sorry.

?? dang....
but I found a very nice deal on the 3400+, so I'm getting it. I could trade with my dad's 3000+ DTR if I need to. he won't mind, as he won't OC.

I have made some *new* decisions...
1. I will not buy the 3400+, I will buy the s939 A64 3200+ Venice.
2. I will buy the Biostar TForce600-939.
4. I will sell my 6600 and use it's price to help pay for the CPU and motherboard.
5. I will keep my case, because it is cool.
6. I will buy a new keyboard....
7. I will buy a mouse pad... later, when I have a steady job.
8. I will leave cooling at stock until I have a steady job.

3. I will not buy the RAM untill I can afford 1.5GB of DDR 500.
4. I will sell my 6600 and buy a BFG 6800GS OC when the money comes.

Now, I am thinking about cooling.... what would be a good solution? How would this work out?

I think you may end up using the 3000+ but, hey, try both and see which is better, you never know.

Good choice on the mobo, ram and video card.

Here are a few reviews of that heatsink you were looking at:

Seems like a pretty good heatsink. Although when I used air cooling I loved my XP-90c. On my Opteron 148 at stock speeds in my attic I had it idling at 18C and loading at 24C. Its pretty cold in my attic though

meh, I would have bought the 128mb version, which this 6800gs can pwn.

I meant 128-bit, and it's the only one...
But, then compare the prices. the 7600gt was not what I was getting, due to my budget. It was this 7600gs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130017
edit2 ***?? where is the one I was looking at??
edit3 here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814122006
And for $110 shipped, and 4 unlockable pipes, I say this beats the 7600gs on stock.

(corrected myself, I never wanter the 7600gt, because of deh price.)
