Bigval.... this is a sempron 64.... not just a sempron. A sempron would lose like you say, but the sempron 64's are MUCH different. 32-bit versus 64-bit.....

EDIT, but this is too much.... we need a new thread on this, as we whored someone else's

Below shows the Celeron beating the semprons. Also, note the 630 (3ghz P4) beating the fastest sempron which is the 3400+. If you look at that graph, you can see a 3.8ghz CELERON taking out a 2.6ghz sempron (200mhz faster than we're talking about). The 3ghz 630 is .2 FPS behind the sempron at 2.6!

Yeah, but the socket of his old system was outdated compared to his new one. Even if 754 is on its way out, it is better than 478. Besides, we're talking about an improvement on his end. He said himself that he's up 10FPS. Considering he dropped in cache and speed, I'd say that that's a pretty good boost.

I think that Pentium's are over rated. Here is one example. My friend has a P4 3.2 Northy OC'ed to 3.5 I gave him Super PI Mod and he ran the 1M test at 43 sconds. My Athlon XP-M 2500 @2.4GHz ran the 1M @ 43 seconds also. His clock speed is 3.5GHz with 533FSB and mine 2.4GHz with 400FSB.

Why in the world would my XP-M 2500 equal his P4 3.2 in this test? I am not even going to say how my 3700+ Sandy killed both of these CPU's @ 2.8GHz

I would give your new system a 7/10 If all you could afford at the time was a sempron than it was a wise decision over your old Pentium. Just my opinion.

EDIT: I made a mistake in quoting what CPU he had, it is actually a Prescott socket 478 @ 800FSB. Sorry!

Just so you know (didn't read all 4 pages) the BIOS of that motherborad are SEVERLY cut down, mainly limted becuse he cannot go over 250FSB, so a MAx oc of 2.2Ghz.

an Asus K8N (i think) has a MAx FSB of 27X....

But yeah, welcome to socket 754 and no more bottlenecking!

EDIT: Sempron64 VS Sempron "Paris" = 64bit and SSE3 with better steping. also, some sempron only have 128KB of L2, choose wisely!

Bigval, that is what we call fluctuation and variable.. Anytime something is that close to each other the winner is usually just because of the way the fps fluctates. But ok, whatever. . Dont know why your so determined to make everything think Sempron's suck but yeah.. ok.
