that was one of the major changes, including full communication between all cores inside the CPU, without going to the northbridge first

It sucks that the motherboard picked a voltage (set to auto) which could be dangerous

I have changed the memory to a different brand and corrected the voltage back to 1.65. I then ran memtest with no errors, should I test with anything else?

What would be the symptoms of permanent dammage?

Which components would be effected?
See the voltage limit link in my signature. It is the voltage difference between the RAM and the uncore that is the issue - not the RAM voltage itself. In other words, you may have still been within that allowable range. If nothing happened, though, you are probably fine even if you went outside that range.

Probobly why they are so much more efficient than my CPU even when i OC past there speeds, wondered why. Just simply better architecture i suppose?

Thanks everone for their input. It was just upsetting that when I set everything in the bios to [auto] that it would have picked a voltage outside of what it recommends as safe. I just assumed it would do the right thing . . . but I guess I should never assume anything, right?

Never assume anything and no 2 parts are ever 100% identical

Yeah, that is for sure. Live and learn. Hopefully I never make this mistake again.

I have the monitoring tools available to me and next time I change anything at all in my system I will be sure to check more carefully.

Just happy that this time it was not a "costly" mistake.
