I don't know if my 1100T can fold cause everyone else's cpus are intel and nvidia cards
post #347 of 1063
1100T can absolutely fold! There's no bias in folding between AMD and Intel. With that said, if the Intel chip is more powerful at multi-threaded tasks, it will excel over the AMD. However, if you're putting a 6 core 1100T up against a quad-core 2500K, the Points Per Day will depend on clockspeed, RAM, and which OS you're using (Windows vs. Linux).

There's some great guides in our folding section about getting your rig setup for folding. Personally, I think the easiest "one stop shop" for folding is the GPU Tracker program. It'll automatically download the latest CPU and GPU clients to let you fold on your rig with just a few clicks. Once you feel the need for more PPD, you can work on increasing your overclock, or moving to a Linux platform as an OS. Feel free to PM me with any other questions you might have. cheers.gif

Hi Guys,

Ive just recently read about the folding@home thing after noticing the logos/badges on other members posts and decided to find out what it was about. After doing some research I thought it would be a very good thing to help out with and so have dl'd the systray software and registered as AlanL on the stanford uni website, i also placed myself in the OCNET team as well using the team number 37726 - I hope this is ok? What else do I need to do to formalise that with you guys?

Also is it possible to do CPU and GPU folding at the same time on a single machine? All my sys info is in my sig.

Aplogies if I am asking questions that have already been answered somewhere else in the forum but its late here in bonnie scotland and Ive had a busy nights work

Thanks StakkerNo1

As Delta says, an AMD CPU can fold just fine and is comparable to a 2500K. But if you gonna fold that 5850, which you might not wanna do depending on a number of things, you should use this gudie (v7): http://www.overclock.net/t/977412/windows-7-complete-client-v7-guide Read the whole guide and especially the post number 4 regarding the core_16 OpenCL WU for your Radeon. If you run the GPU Tracker program you will only get half the PPD of what your card is able to do (you can of course choose to only fold on your CPU).

Then you're in, when you get 50k points you apply for a postbit (the FAH-icon under your avvy and such) and when you start raking in the millions you get that cool "Folding Millionaire" badge at the bottom of your sig.

If you wanna maximize your computers output but still use Windoze, get the Tracker and enable advmethods at least for the GPU which will give you WUs that use almost exclusively GPU and very little CPU. You can use the v7 (guide posted above) too but the it's not essential for you and the Tracker is bit easier for beginners. You get the advanced WUs the same way (client-type=advanced) as in the 4th post of the v7 guide.

This thread is for members who is willing to maybe take their folding to the next level, joining a sub-team of OCN (still folding for 37726) and compete against each other where you wanna be able to fold at least 20h/day (preferable 24h). The teams have six positions with certain hardware requirements.

So I have an I7 Hexacore but no team...

Working on finishing up the OC but once that's done I plan to leave the folding on 24/7.
