7900 gt vs x1800xt 256mb

Which would perform better in general do you reckon? It's hard to work out as there dopnt's seem to be any reviews of the 256mb x1800 xt. They are both going for almost identical prices. Thanks.

The x1800XT 512 performs like on avrage 6 FPS better than the 7800GTX, so I'm assuming that the 7900GT will be better than the 256 version of the x1800XT, which I hear is crap.

I beleive that the 7900GT is superior,so I would bet that the 7900Gt is the better card.

If it were the 512MB version virsus the 7900GT, I would go for the x1800XT 512, but the x1800XT gets most of it's power from the extra 256MB of RAM.

the x1800xt is an extra £20, and I'm already pushing the boat out by going for a 7900gt price range, I really couldn't stretch it that far.

Any more advice from anyone, especially if they have experience with one of these cards, would be greatly appreciated.

That completely wrong, also you aren't provding much proof here.

Take a little read at this and you will see that the 7800GTX and the x1800XT 512MB (not 256MB) are pretty much even, Depending on the game you play and resolution

Since the 7900GT is about 20-25% faster than the 7800GTX, overall the 7900GT is the more superior card over BOTH the x1800XT 256MB and 512MB. Also the 7900GT is $100USD less than a x1800XT 512MB and the same price with the 256MB version

Wow! Where did you read the 7900 GT is 20-25% faster than the GTX?
AFAIK they're similar but not equal when pushing pixel, shaders, vertex and textures see link here and also here.
Price wise? yes the GT is a much better choice. Performance wise? very similar.

I have no experiece with ATI's at all but if you like ATI better than nVidia or prefer ATI over nVidia then the X1800XT should be a better or good choice.

This chart here, shows a GT compared to an XT, except the XT is the 512MB memory version, so chances are that they could equally be good if the XT had a 256MB of Mem.

The majority of 7900GTs are about 20% faster than the vanilla 7800GTX benchmarks we see, does it make that much of a difference if it's 10% for 3rd party for either 7800GTX or 7900GT, not really. Either way for the price, it destroys the x1800XT 256MB version

Edited: my mistake
