Whats the catch in buying "cheap" 2GB RAM?

Thread Starter
Hi.

I'm upgradeing my RAM(PC3200), and I came up with these two packs of RAM.
I'm also wondering what the catch is, with buying 2GB of cheap RAM, compared to 1GB of RAM?

1) TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Dual Pack Kit w/two matched PC3200 DDR DIMMs

2) Crucial PC3200 BallistiX DDR 1024MB CL2 Kit w/two matched,2.8V,64Meg x 64,184pin

They both cost exactly the same, and I'm wondering whats the catch on the 2GB? When they sell 2GB of RAM for the same amount as 1GB

Thanks in advance

The amount your are willing to spend is important for quality suggestions.
The thing to look for with value or inexpensive RAM is preferably CAS2.5 vs CAS3.
Below are a just for referances... CAS2, CAS2.5 and CAS3

i would go for some G.Skill ram (i would go for the ram in the 3rd link in The Duke's post) its regarded as some of the most overclockable ram you can buy

cheap ram doesnt overclock very well and i think it can make your system unstable when overclocked,

but dont take my word for the last point i made

As stated it is a quality issue.

What is your budget ?
Do you require 2x512Mb or 2x1024Mb modules ?
What speed do you wish to run them at ?
What sites/suppliers do you have to choose from (availability) ?

cheers

I would go for the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231032 without doubt. But, does Newegg ship international?
In my case, to norway.

My budget is around 150-200$. I could order from anywhere that ships "overseas/international".

You would be better off trying to obtain from the UK. A nice place to look is..here..they ship all over Europe etc and have a good range including the G.SKILL for reasonable cost.

BTW : Newegg don't ship to overseas customers....grrrrrr

cheers

Thanks

I think I'm going for these :

G.Skill Extreme Series 2x512MB kit.

1024MB kit (2x512MB) dual channel pack DDR 400 MHz (PC3200), Non-ECC, unbuffered
CAS Latency:2-3-3-6 (PC3200)
6 Layers PCB
184-pin DDR SDRAM

Seems like the most reasonable to me, if you guys dont protest extremly, ill go grab them!

Thanks!
