Active Ram Cooling ???

Thread Starter
Ok I have a couple of extra fans sitting around now since I got the water going and I was wondering that if I put one fastened to my ram if it would help with my oc?? My ram is OCZ Gold which is BH-5 and I have to really put the juice to it to get stable at anything over 2915...I'm talking 3.5-3.7, and the ram gets super hot with that much juice, so would it help by active cooling to push alittle higher and to get stable??

A large heatsink will also do great things! Even better with a large fan on top of it. Look at my solution(still working on it...):

Nice option you have there Bimmer.
A more conventional one is ...
http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/zafbfanbras1.html
or making a simular bracket o to support the fan over the RAM.

Get yourself any 80mm fan, and stick some double sided tape on the top of the ram. Stick to fan down onto it. This is the cleanest way to do it. Another way is to use zipties to tie the fan off to something, which is easy and works good. You definately need active cooling on BH5.

tatted_taz as the others have indicated, active cooling for the memory at high voltages definitely makes a difference. Another thing though, I've noticed that you're using watercooling, do you have good airflow in your case? If not, you might also want to place a fan blowing over the CPU socket. Some of the other components around the socket are designed to be cooled by the CPU fan on traditional air coolers. THe various chipsets or MOSFETs could also overheat which might hold you back.

you can get active cooling and mount it over all of your RAM, look at this thing, it cools your RAM and looks awesome in your case!
