Building A Mac From Scratch. !

Thread Starter
So im not talking about building a Hackintosh here,
im considering buying all the hardware that you would find in a reg Mac.

I found a pretty cool site to buy a lot of the hardware, and im sure ebay will have some of the stuff i need aswell.

But before I started, I want to know what I am getting into,

is this a bad idea????

Let me know why if it is.
Yes it is a terrible idea. The only real value a mac has to offer comes from the extra 300-500 dollars you spend to feel like part of the trendy scene. If you skip that part then why have a mac?

Wat so you're not putting the Mac OS on there?
Then this is just a regular computer?
If you are putting the OS on then it's a Hackintosh. Plain and simple.
You can't [legally] build a computer and put any Mac OS on it.
Doesn't matter where you get the parts, etc.

I'm not sure, but I would venture that even if you bought only hardware which originally shipped in different Macintoshs' they'd probably still find you in violation of one of OSX's draconian licensing terms.

Aside from that, I don't guess it'd be a terrible idea if you could source the parts for cheaper than buying a new mac.

Honestly, if you're going through the trouble of piecing this thing together yourself and still likely to find what you've done was in violation of Apple's law then at least build something that doesn't cost a fortune...

I'm just sayin'

I heard Steve Jobs comes to your house with a baseball bat, calls you a blasphemer and goes Office Space on your makeshift mac.

Why are you building a mac anyway? If you are good enough at computers to build one why would you choose to build a mac? U should know better ..

Considering you get a real mac motherboard, it should work. Just be extra careful getting compatible parts.

Uhmm, no. Mac's aren't really that more expensive than the PC equiv. if at all (varies on the Mac), obviously building your computer will be cheaper than any store bought computer though.
You can't build a Mac the "right way", no matter what you're doing you'll be running a hackintosh.

OK lol It's time to look at the facts. $2500 for a quad core and 3 GB of RAM with no monitor. Macs are wayyyy overpriced, so don't even try to say they aren't
