Dual vs. Single Core? - Page 3

It all depends on when you will upgrade. If you want thing computer to last a year or more, get dual core.

If you see yourself replacing this processor in 4-6months, go single core.

If you go for the 3700 San Diego, you really want the KAB3E and KABQE steppings. Also the KAB2E stepping is quite nice too. I had mine up to 2.8GHz stable. If you get one of those steppings, then your in great shape! Only thing bad about newegg is you cant ask them to send you a specific stepping.

Oh no, I won't get rid of it that fast. I will definitely have this PC for over a year. I may upgrade RAM or gfx card by then, but mobo and CPU will stay.

Hmm, I keep going back and forth on this one... lol

Is there any place (besides in a store) where I can ask for a specific stepping? And which of those steppings would be the best of the three you mentioned?

I guess in order it would be KAB3E,KABQE,KAB2E

I am not a 100% sure on the order because they are all great. If you get any of those you will be doing great trust me!

Don't know of a place that will have great deals and allow you to request a stepping. You would just have to call and ask. More than likely if you order from Newegg, you will get one of these steppings. I ordered mine 3 weeks ago.

I just went through the same decission process TP. I came to the conclusion that the 3700+SD is faster with better overclocking abilities and with the next generation chips coming soon, in a year or so I will be able to get the X2 4800 a lot cheaper and the software should be there for it by then. You will have the motherboard for it already. I spent the extra $70 on a better motherboard and vidio card.
I'm glad I came here and asked first.

Haha, yes it is fun, and annoying at the same time...

I think you're right. Plus, I don't think I really need more than the 3700+, I think it will be more than enough for what I do.

I think you helped me make up my mind

I'll stick with the single core 3700+.

Huzzah, decision made.
