I think RAID0+1 Raptors is plenty. You have 300GB of storage, and everything get backuped.

ok go with the fx 60 because it is dual core you will have to overclock it to match the fx-57 performance of 2.8ghz stock vs the 2.6ghz of the fx-60. I also suggest a sli mobo as well as a pair of nvidia 7900gtx which have 512mb of ddr3 which in sli mode is 1024mb or ddr3. also gskill ram is the best ive found so far. pc power and cooling inc have good 1000watt power supply i would go with one of those. also segate is in my opinion is the best bang for buck hard drive go for 2 and set it up in raid-0

As someone who actually just did build a system with relatively no money restraints, I would have to say that I am pretty satisfied with my current build, which is still at stock speeds with air cooling.

I'm kind of wishing that I had went ahead and got an external drive bay with hot swappable drives, tho...

My board would recognize it, but it would kill dual channel, which is why I went with 2 sticks of 1GB platinum OCZ...

The question hasn't risen yet.. what the hell is this computer for? (gaming, programming, etc.. but how what games, what kind of programming? Is he trying to open crucial databases and edit them, etc?)

Everyone has different opinions because no one knows what it's going to be used for yet!

Personally I would go Sidetrakd's system, swap it out with a FX-60 and get a nice 24' LCD FP.

It all depends on what the hell it would be used for. Here is my dream build, because I am going to be overclocking and hard core gaming.

Case: Lian-Li PC-65B (With custom water cooling setup) $300 or so
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 1000w ($469.99)
CPU: AMD FX-60 ($1035)
Memory: OCZ Plat Ed. 2x1gb ($280.98)
Hard drive: 2x150gb WD Raptor ($699.98)
GPU: 2x XFX 7900GTX ($1038)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty ($283)
Speakers: Creative GigaWorks S750 700watts ($429.99)
Mouse: Logitech G7 ($64.98)
Keyboard: Logitech G15 ($69.95)

And any other little things you might want, such as AS5 (a must).. extra case fans, etc etc.

It really comes down to what the hell the guy is going to do with it. This is the setup I would want, and it comes out to $4671.87

Go Alienware or don't build it custom, it would come out to much more. The speakers, sound card, the extra video card, overkill of a hard drive, overkill of a PSU all equal out the extra cash.
