well first off y dont u just go with a nvidia 6800 or a ATI 9800? If u only have PCI slots than i guess ur stuck with that. I am. I have a fx5500 OC in mine and it plays CS:S allright and it played BF2 allright too but at low resolutions (800x600).

unless your stuck with only a PCI slot and cant use any other card... take our advice and dont buy one! lol

for a few dollars more than the best FX card, you can get a geforce 6600gt which will blow it away! but the 6600gt is agp not standard PCI... depends on what slot you have on your MOBO.

The best FX card is the 5950Ultra, which isnt a bad card. The FX series is not totally crap either. From a 5700Ultra and up they arent bad. My FX5500 played CSS with high model and texture detail at 1024x768 at over 70FPS. Doesnt sound very bad to me.

The FX cards only support DX8.1 shaders, and run DX9.0 emulated, which is just DX8.1 running under the name DX9.0. So you aren't gunna get all the cool shader effects from games that support DX9.

He won't get the shadow effects, but at least he won't be playing on 800x600 and get lag. My old computer had a 1.8 p4 with 256 ram, do you think that would run CS:S on almost high everything? Not quite; at least when I put my 5500 in I ran at medium to high.
