Mate, understand few critical points before you change your PSU. Your PSU can run 4 GT240s. Since GT240 does NOT include a 6 pin connector, it is limited to ~roughly 75 watts due to PCI-E regulations. Now, the card's TDP is 69 watts. Whenever you overclock the card, to say 570/1428/1700. The card may consumes in theory, say 74 watts. When you overclock it to, say 600/1478/1750, the card will perhaps in theory consume more than 75 (could be 80 watts) watts; therefore, if the card does not get the enough wattage, it will not be stable. That's why GT240 in general isn't the best overclocker. Your card is just fine.

Regards,

Well, mine is 512MB GDDR5, so that may be the case because 512MB will consume less power than the 1GB variant. So, you're pretty much stuck at where you are. Try to overclock it little bit, but don't expect to go too far.

Hey all, I know I'm like a year late for joining the group I recently bought an XFX GT240 1GB DDR3, yeah I know, the DDR5 is better but my previous card went and I didn't have time to choose, also the place I bought from only had two cards in stock, this and a RadeonHD that was twice the price. Anyway, I love the card and it runs the games that I play (which are somewhat older) pretty darn well on high, considering I only have a 19 inch monitor with 1280x1024 res, I'm somewhere between a casual gamer and enthusiast these days. :-)

Anyway, I've been having some issues which I think are software related. On some games, namely Bioshock and C&C3, I get in for a few min and then the screen gets lots of noise and pc sometimes hangs, sometimes I just minimize and maximise and it restores everything to normal for a few seconds / minutes then goes awry again.

Other older games such as Modern Warfare and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance play perfectly.

I have tried several different driver configurations including those suggested personally to me by nVidia support. Those actually worked the worst, the new 275.33 seem the most stable so I'm keeping those.

I also thought was maybe an overheating issue so tested using both HWMonitor and MSI Afterburner. The hottest my card got was 48 C which is normal from what I've read and it idles at 39 C. I ran full benchmarks in both OpenGL and DX9 settings in Furmark to rule out D3D issues, and it passed them fine. I then did a slight overclock which actually fixed the problem. Both Bioshock and C&C ran beautifully on highest settings (no AA) with no issues.

However the next morning when I tried playing C&C from a cold boot to test, it broke again, whole screen froze up and had to restart PC as it had done before, I reset my clock to default. Ran Bioshock a few times, the issue was back. Yet after about 10 min, it went away, I played for a while, quit and tried C&C again and it was fine. I don't have a theory for this one.

I've tried switching PhysX on and off, Vsync on and off, triple buffering on and off, looking for some setting that causes it. I also tried changing my monitor refresh rate, even though its LCD and in theory that would make no difference.

No avail, it seems if I just leave it on long enough it works. Any ideas?

I am using WinXP SP3 and I thought could maybe be an issue there, going to try with Win7. Oh and I have a 460w PSU, which should be more than enough for this low power card and my 12v checked out too.

PS. When it works, I love it. Nice little card.

Heya Camper. Could you fill out your system spec for us? Simply click the User CP link there near the top of the page and then click Add System on the left of the next page. Put in all your specs there. This way we can all see what you are working with and will be able to help you much easier.
