[Build Log] - Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-PTANG. Zoom-Boing v2.0 (56k warning)

This build is named after my beloved M1710 XPS, which was named "Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-PTANG. Zoom-Boing".

So, i've slowly been accumulating the parts for this build (well, i ordered it all at once, but it all shipped at different times), and have finally got the whole thing put together. After many set backs (mainly the fact that my second GPU doesn't work, so i wasn't able to crossfire [no RMA as i bought second hand]), it is finally done.

Sorry for the bad picture quality, only have a phone camera

This was just a cheap Rosewill case, nothing spectacular. It claims to be a screw-less design, however you pretty much have no choice but to use screws, since the design is so terrible. Also, absolutely no wire management, but meh... was only ~$50 CAD:

This was a budget cooler, only ~$20 before shipping, but it gets the job done for such a low price. CoolerMaster Hyper TX3:

This is the 4870, this is actually the one that doesn't work. They're both the same model of cards but, one won't even boot.

This is my motherboard, the ASRock M3A770DE, again since this was a budget rig i got this with price in mind. It was only ~$65 CAD and handles itself pretty well, certainly for the price. Unlocked my Phenom II 720, and it's stable.

This is the Power supply to this rig, a Kingwin 700W unit. Not a great power supply to say the least, but it could be worse as well. It's really only to hold me off, as when i get an Antec 1200 There is no way the 24 pin or 8 pin connectors would reach that far. It's the worse part about this power supply, it has very short cords. So i'll be getting an Antec CP-1000W with my Antec 1200.

Now, the mouse is something i bought just the other night as a impulse buy, i probably shouldn't have but... i did anyway. It's not the best mouse i've ever used, certainly since i'm not a claw grip type of guy, and also because the mouse is way too light for my liking. When i click the button, the force of me clicking the button also moves the mouse forward EVERRR sooo slightly, but enough to normally move my mouse off the field i wished to click. I'm getting used to it, but also probably getting a G500 today, we'll see.

Side of the Pc, it's very hard to wire manage in that case with this power supply... but meh, at least there's no window.

And here's the whole setup.

I was able to get the processor to 3.5GHZ stable with 4 cores active, with this cooling and this motherboard it seems pretty good. What seems really strange to me is though that it wouldn't even think of booting at 3.6ghz, with any core voltage, or configuration, but it's rock solid at 3.5. So, i'm thinking it may be a motherboard limit, as it was still getting decent temps.

Also go my graphics card to 785/1100, i tried for 790 but it failed, so i put it down one and it hasn't seemed to have any issues.

Got 15977 3Dmarks, i'm sure i could beat 16k if i tried. Not quite sure if this is decent or not. I'll be getting Bad Company 2 tonight, and i'll see how that runs. Really is a shame i couldn't get the second card to work, was curious to see what crossfire could do. Going to try a bios flash later.

I 0_o at the thread title.

Anyways, that's a pretty decent budget gaming build you got going on there. May I ask why you went with 2 x 4870's instead of a single 5850 or something? Was one of them leftover from a previous build? Also, why did you get the TX3 instead of something like a Hyper 212+ or Scythe Mugen 2 for like $10 more?

Nonetheless, enjoy the rig, and BC2.

I didn't go for the better cooler for a bit more because i'm getting the Thermalright TRUE with two 120mm Typhoon's next check. Also, i went for the two 4870's because i got them second hand for $210 (for both combined). Thennn, i had to pay $110 to customs... thennnn, i found out one didn't work.

Cooler sounds good.

Tough luck on the GPUs. :x Is the seller of the cards willing to assist in RMA for that faulty card? If not, then maybe try baking?

I am indeed going to try baking it as a last resort.

I don't believe RMA is still a viable option.

That's a pretty nice budget build. The case is just terrible for cable management though
