Disable automatic driver installation W7?

I've already tried this guide http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...windows-vista/

gpedit.msc does not exist, and the crossed out one doesn't work.

Is there any other way to disable it?

Yes it does. Go to run and type it in: "gpedit.msc" without the quotes of course.
And follow the instructions:

Go to Start–>Search type in gpedit.msc
Click the file to open the Local Group Policy Editor and show Windows who is in control!!
You want to go here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Device Installation. Click on the subfolder Device Installation on the left and on the right side you will see the possible restrictions.
Right Click on Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings and edit this option, set it on ENABLED.
Reboot Windows and enjoy its inability to pollute your system with its standard driver, open gpedit.msc again and revert the change so you will be able to install your driver.

Then here is an alternative route. You can disable the drivers that are installed from the internet through windows update. Enjoy I know you'll get it working!

1, Start Menu search box : type change device installation settings

Once you click on that to start it up you will get the following dialog that
gives you two choices:

2, The top option: Yes, do this automatically is the recommended setting.
When the second option is selected the options expand:

3, When it is expanded you see a default choice and this is basically the same as the automatic option above. The other two choices are the big difference here.
Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer. This will search your computer first instead of Windows Update. If it is not found locally then it will go to Windows Update and look there for a driver.
Never install driver software from Windows Update. The system will always ask you to provide the device driver.
We want to enable "Never install driver software from Windows Update"
Then click on Save Changes
4, Now your Windows won't automatically download drivers.

It's ok. It seems like those are the only two methods, and I decided to take a different approach to my problem.

There is a third way, I'm using it.

Just put Windows Update on the second level (download but don't install). This way when an update will come it will download them, but will install only if you let them to. If a certain update bothers you, rightclik on it and select "hide update". Works for any update, not only drivers.
