Trouble OCing 3000+ (venice)

Hi,
Newbie to ocing here.. I set my memory timing to 166, and slowly stepped up the HTT 5 mhz at a time.. at 240 i get a momentary BSOD and on restart windows complains of a possible power failure. Upping voltage (tried 1.53) doesent work, slowing memory timing to 150 doesent work, even reducing multiplier to 8x didnt work. I also tried changing my memory timing to 2-2-2-6 but did not work! Im at a loss, my mobo is a good one, and i know this cpu can go faster...

Any tips?

EDIT:

235 on the htt is ok, but not stable (rebooted when i tried a game) 230 is stable AFAIK

Make sure your HT multiplier isn't set too high. Keep your HT multiplier at 5x for 200Mhz FSB, 4x for 201-225Mhz FSB, and 3x for 226-250Mhz FSB.

Try loosing the timing to 2.5 6 3 3 voltage of 2.75 or 2.8
Dram: 166 = 220mhz
FSb: 270 = 2.43ghz
Multi: 9x
Htt: x4 or x3 <--4x time work better for my sli plat.
Vcore 1.45
Cpu special Vid: 9.9

Hope this settings work for u. if that settings doesnt work then what u may have to do is set EVERYTHING on the dram configuration as manul.

Watch your vcore increases and the CPU temp @ full load, keep @ or below 50°c
Also... try 133/266 for the RAM divider.

That did the trick! reduced the ht x to 3, and ran 240 just fine.... did a 20 minute prime95 torture test (large) and temps topped at 45, stable at 43-44. No errors... I think i should invest in better cooling, but how far should i push the cpu? Id rather have a stable, long lasting system (that i dont have to monitor temps on all the time) than a superduperfast one.

And can you guys reccomend some better cooling options? Is it possible to take off the stock fan/heatsink from the cpu? I know i shouldave used arctic silver, but is there a way to remove the 'patch' that comes stock? Any ideas on better case cooling? (got 3 fans)

Thanks a bunch!

Depends on how much u are willing to spend on cooling. if ur short on money and not planning to overclock ur proc to the extreme i say stick with air cooling xp-120 xp-90, Big typhoon, Zalman cnps series. To remove the thrermal pad ( im assuming that what ur talking about patch) just wipe if off with a tissue paper then pour some rubbing alcohol on the TP and rub the bottom part of the heatsink, that should clean it up.
