Presler 930 overclocking! - Page 3

I tried for a 300FSB and it failed but I just remembered that I lowered my RAM to CAS 3 (3-4-4-8) so that may have been it since it was at stock volts. I only needed 1.400v to get 4.21 totally stable and by stable I mean STABLE, my P4 at 3.4 couldn't even complete 3D Mark 06 and would crash in BF2 after about an hour while this CPU at 4.21 can complete 3 looped runs of 3D Mark 06 and can run BF2 all week long with no problem, its stunning (and refreshing to not have to worry about instability). I highly reccomend these chips to anyone who wants a new computer, the 920 is a steal at that price and to be honest, if you have the Asus P5WD2-E Premium like me, you can be damn sure that it will do 350-400FSB so you may as well get a lower multiplier to take advantage of some more RAM bandwidth considering that 333FSB is only DDR2 667 and 400FSB is DDR2 800 well I'm off to try some more overclocking, will report back as soon as I hit a new milestone.

By the way, at 4.21 I run the CSS Video Stress Test all maxed out at 1280x1024 and get 150FPS

Sweet! I'm happy for you! I only booted mine at 4.5Ghz and ran Windows for 5 minutes (had to fly to NY on the double), so I have no idea as to the stability of the OC, but when I get home Wednesday/Thursday, will have to have a competition with to see who can get the highest FSB, dual Prime 95 stable.

I have the same board with a 940

I've seen 4.48 max, I need a better PSU .. I get shutdowns,

I'm 4.4 stable no problem, 56c load (basic watercooling)

using cr4p ram but that will get fixed sooner or later,

the x1900xt finally got 500+ FPS avg in the Ati Tool square benchmark..

Lol, I wish I could use ATITool to compare to my X800XL but I don't think it will run (doesnt work on a 7800GTX I tested for a friend a while back).

Anyways 300FSB didn't work for whatever reason, again I have reason to believe it was my fault since I didnt test all possible voltages or etc. but it was definitely not the RAM since I put it at 4-4-4-8 and 1.9v and it's rated for 4-4-4-8 1.8v all the way to DDR2-667 and it was only at DDR2-600 so RAM is ruled out. It is now either my CPU topping out (could be, I only used 1.45v) or the motherboard topping out (again only tried 1.5v when 1.55 and 1.6 are also available). However I am quite impressed with it at 4.2 since it is dead stable and runs everything faster than I could have imagined.

At any rate, I hope you're able to get some crazy overclocks pauldovi I think I'm happy right where I am.

I can tell you that it is not the motherboard. The P5WD2-E has been used to get P4 Cedar Mills to +7Ghz....

You say that you can't hit 300Mhz FSB, but you have 4200Mhz? How 300Mhz x 14 = 4200Mhz....

Try putting the RAM at 2.1V, a lot of DDR2 RAM runs stock at 2.2V...

But, hey! 4.2Ghz is great. That is matching an OCed FX60 according to Overclock Australia....

After I play with mine, I will probably just set it to a FSB of 300 (300 x 14 = 4200Ghz and a FSB of 1200Mhz)

I just got the D 830 processor but the stock heat sync is making an annoying wining sound, which means I can send it back for a D 9xx series now. I don't want to go water cooled so I'll prob go with a Tt Big Typhoon. I was wondering if the 930 was worth the extra 100 bucks or should I save money and go with the 920. Any help would be awsome thanks!

P.s. I really wanna break the 4 gig marker but stay air cooled.

Save your cash and get the 920, while the stock clock speed on the 930 is faster, the overclock speed achievable is about the same. Depending of course on the rest of your system, as you can see, the P5WD2-E-Premium is the prefered base for OCing the 9xx CPUs, and I have had great succes with my P5WD2-Premium (although I am going to upgrade to the "E" this month)

Welp they let me return the 830 and I ordered the 920. The only thing is that they told me I needed to get a fan with the order or else I dont' get a warrenty. The dude recommened the golden orb II and I didn't have time to look into it. Soooo I am gunna give that a shot and if it sucks too bad I'll just have to upgrade later.
