What/How to cut into my case

Thread Starter
I'm gonna cut some holes in the side of my case and put in a couple case fans as i have only like none. I don't have access to a dremel, and this is where I was wondering if you guys could help. Whats something I could use to cut a hole? Pictures of my case are found here, and here. Yep, its old lol

Also, any comments on where to put the fans? I was thinking maybe on the top (exhuast) and bottom some where for intake?

[note] I have turned my fan around and its now blowing onto the heatsink lol..everytime i post pictures everyone comments

First off Take the Fan place it on the Side, Now take a Marker out line it. Now you want to make a few decsent sized holes in the square. Take a Drill Make a Hole in the center then go and make two more holes to the left and right, do the same until you reach the line of the outlined box this is the easiest way to do it with out ****ing or scratching up the side of your case.

Thanks, that sounds good, ill give it a shot!

[edit] Would it be a good idea to change my hsf to suck the hot air off the heatsink and then have it being pulled out of the case right away? Or should I have it blow onto the heatsink hoping that the cold air intake's air will be shot at it?

Any fan in the middle or center you want to be exhaust so yes you want to take hot air outside of the case, intake is on top and bottom.

I plan on getting 2 case fans. I was thinking intake on bottom where the cold air chills(no pun intended), and exhuast at the top where the hot air rises. Should I change that idea up?

Well, I did it. I drilled some holes into the side of the case and had some difficulties. I wanted to take pictures unfortunately i didn't have any usable batteries, and I wasn't willing to wait. I just bought a 92mm Vantec Stealth. Runs at 20dba (woof) and 31cfm(woof) for just over 10 bucks (double woof).

I tried drilling several holes around and around liike i was welding or something, but the drill (which has a max speed of 48,000 RPM may I add) kept slipping into the other holes, no matter how hard i tried. So i easily fixed this by strapping up the biggest drill bit, 1/2 inch, and drilling into the dead centre. Got out dads trusty tin snips and cut through my case like butter. It all worked out great!

Idle temps PRE case fan - 42c
Load temps PRE case fan - 52c

Idle temps POST case fan - 36c
Load temps POST case fan - 45c max, after OCCT

the fan is on intake, and she works grrrreat. Thanks for all your help guys, anyone who contributed rep for you!

Beat a hole in the side of your case with a hammer LOL. Why do you go to a friends house with the side of your pc and talk to his or her dad. Your bound to find someone with a dremel or holesaw!
