"In computing, IA-64 (or ia64, short for Intel Architecture-64) is a 64-bit processor architecture developed in cooperation by Intel and Hewlett-Packard, implemented by processors such as Itanium and Itanium 2. The goal of Itanium was to produce a "post-RISC era" architecture using EPIC. The acronym IPF (Itanium Processor Family) is also used, especially by HP, to refer to the Itanium architecture."

As you said, the large L2 and L3 caches are expensive to make.

They're not general purpose processors.

The deal with cache is think of it like memory, its how much it can hold at one time and procces. Basicly the more cache the more it can do at once like servers at huge companies or .......servers at slightly smaller companies

How did you ever come across this thread? It's MONTHS old. I *don't* think he's still waiting for an answer...

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble (you all answered pretty much on target) but we really don't need to do this...

Sorry if this seems rantish...

I found it by going to "unanswered threads" and then skipping to the 10th page or so. He may very well still want the answer, and he'll see we've responded when he logs in.
