Paradigm Shifter,
I totally understand, I too have been spending too much time on troubleshooting hardware instead of playing games or relaxing. I couldn't get my MB video to take my HDMI plug, so then I tried going back to VGA cabling that I was previously using and that wouldn't work either. Then in the middle of troubleshooting that, my source button on my monitor broken down. It's completely jammed in and/or it keeps cycling through VGA, DVI, and HDMI input, and if that isn't enough my warranty is up on that monitor. >.< AND! I have been using my low end graphic card from my server to troubleshoot the auxiliary monitors, so I have to keep bring down that, which is also having issues with dropped packages which may or may not be fixed yet. Point being, our time could be better spent doing other enjoyable things.

Have you tried different cdroms drives, I have had this happen before with an older system. Linux would take but Windows would always Blue screen on me. Though, it could be the motherboard as well. But other then that, you could try basic troubleshooting as in one cdroms, one hard, one ram stick, on-board video and see if that takes. Good luck.

frag85, The build in my signature is my current computer running DayZ and that is also correct, first time to Arma 2. I have just order H100 and waiting for it to get in to do some serious overclocking. I ran the game with one monitor and I was receiving almost the same results.

I think my Phenom II rig is shot. mad.gif Got a replacement for the bad RAM, the new stuff passes Memtest like a champ - three complete passes and not a twitch. The bad stuff had 800,000 errors when I hit stop on the first pass.
But the system just won't work! It's driving me nuts. Linux installs and boots fine - it's totally happy. I can run linux based stress tests until the cows come home and no problems... but Windows just won't install. It just BSODs as soon as the cursor appears for the install routine. BSOD error is either 50, 24 (both of which appear to be related to bad memory) or a new one just now was 7F. I've just gutted the box so I can run it all open-bench tomorrow to try to find what's going on.
I've changed the SATA cables, I've zeroed the drives so that its not a bad MFT causing issues. As I said the RAM is fine according to Memtest and linux stress tests.
I'm currently thinking the IMC in the CPU has started going, which will be very annoying as the CPU is just out of warranty I think (will need to check) and besides, 1090T's are like hens teeth now. I'll probably pick up the cheapest AM3 mobo I can with four DIMM slots simply to try that idea out. But I'm tired, I've tried all the usual stuff I can think of and I'm really, really annoyed right now. Largely because I don't really want to spend more money, even if it'll fix it. I've spent enough on unexpected expenses recently already! sad-smiley-002.gif
...
Sorry, just needed to vent. If anyone has any bright ideas, though, I'll be happy to hear 'em.

installing from dvd or usb stick? I've had bad dvd's cause similar issues.

Use another rig to reformat the drive. Then try reinstalling. I've had something similar happen with a laptop and winXP.

I've tried both.

As it happens, I installed Windows 7 on a laptop today off the same USB stick copy that's giving me problems with the Phenom II system and it was fine (I put a larger drive in the laptop)... the DVD I've used in the past with this optical drive and it's been fine.

But on the Phenom II rig, it's always the same. It's just weird - in my experience, linux is so much more fussy than Windows when it comes to a stable system. I've had Windows stable boxes take one look at Debian or Arch and fall over without fail, but this box is the other way around...

Yeah, that's why I gutted the box tonight in preparation for tomorrow. I'm going to go back to basics, but it's a pain in the rear as I've moved to a Noctua C-14 heatsink on the CPU, and it completely covers all the RAM slots, so swapping RAM in and out involves removing the CPU HSF. frown.gif I like the heatsink as it's whisper quiet and keeps the CPU cool, but it's a nightmare when troubleshooting!

I should be glad that my Surround rig is behaving itself, but all I can think about is how this other box was working and now isn't. frown.gif I'll be look at ~£55 for an AM3(+) board with four DIMM slots that is cheap-as-cheap-can-be, but that'll stop me running 470SLI.

I did see one post via mostly-useless Google hunting (they're all people with Windows actually installed, which doesn't help me much...) with a Microsoft MVP basically saying "AMD IMCs are pants and can't cope with lots of RAM" well... this system has done so for well over a year without issues, it's just since I moved that it's all gone wrong.

...I thought with (apparently) error free RAM this was going to be easy. Obviously, this system has other ideas.

Will try that tomorrow. Would have thought that a zero pass would be essentially the same thing, but perhaps not. smile.gif

anyone running two 670 or 680 (just 2 not 3 or 4) with 7680x1440 that can chime in on their fps in games? I've seen benchmarks made by people with 3 or 4, but I'm looking for just sli performance at 7680x1440

You can estimate it based on 5760x1080 SLI numbers, just divide by 1.82... (or for a rougher estimate halve the numbers you see reported) it won't be hugely accurate, but it'll give you a ballpark figure. But I'd write off any 2GB numbers automatically, as with >11 million pixels, 2GB of VRAM just isn't going to cut it on higher detail levels.

ACHILEE5,
Quick question for you. How is the Raid 0 of your SSDs? At least, I am guessing you have a Raid setup with those two SSD. Do you notice any between a single and double SSD setup? I have seen some pretty good results, but I don't know if I want to sacrifice speed for more space. I would love to put more games on the SSD, because currently my 128 isn't big enough. :S

I've had it before with SSD's and it basically just doubles your speeds. Though it's bench able performance and not really noticeable in use IMO. Also you do have to deal with RAID issues. Especially if you are just running RAID0, make sure you trust your SSD because if one goes down there goes your whole partition. Though I never had a failure I got sick of board/controller issues and went back to a single drive.
