anyone getting crashes and flickering when starting up GW2 in portrait?

I tried but figured it might be game not supporting 4230x2560

wermad, where do you buy used mb from? and you trust used mb as well?

Also where do you guys sell your hardware at? I have older hardware, but I don't know if I want to say goodbye to it just yet. Also, how do you check your vram usage? How do you know if it's accurate? I have heard BF3 uses more vram then it actually needs, so doesn't this make it hard to figure out your actually vram usage?

I'd not buy a used mobo myself, unless it was for pennies (which I did recently, as I bought a socket 478 board to replace a dead mobo in a work system for 99p plus shipping). You can sell hardware on OCN in the relevant subforum, or ebay or whatever. I sold two 1GB GTX460s to another UK member of OCN which went painlessly for both of us.

I always get sellers remorse when I've parted with kit. It seems that no sooner do I sell it or give it away that a few weeks later I need it for something! That happened with a CPU - sent it to a friend, then needed it a few days later. redface.gif

Checking VRAM usage is easy - MSI Afterburner allows you to visualise (monitor in real time if you have a Logitech G15/G13) or log to a file various measures to do with the GPU. How accurate it is? Hm... guess you just have to assume it isn't lying to you. wink.gif Given results I saw when testing 1GB vs. 2GB GTX460 Surround, I'd tend to trust it, however. Check out the link in my sig for a slightly aging but still valid investigation into VRAM usage in Surround. smile.gif

BF3 seems to use whatever it can in terms of VRAM. The more the GPU has, the more it takes. I can't decide whether it's being efficient in doing that, or wasteful.

Most games don't have engines like that, though.

Paradigm Shifter、 thanks for the information! I am reading the 1GB vs 2GB GPU thread right now. I own a G13, so this is prefect!!! I too, regret selling / giving things away, but it's usually for the better.

You're welcome mate. smile.gif

I just noticed a typo in my previous post, so I'm going to correct it. In the paragraph about the G13, it should be 'logging measures about the GPU' not 'CPU'. wink.gif

To sell here at ocn, you must have 35 reps though. Like Para said, forums and ebay. I have purchased used mb a lot and the main reason is that they depreciate faster than gpu(s). Especially if the board is having issues or is slow to sell (manufacturer will start slashing prices and offer rebates).

I bought a nice p67 mb that supports 16x/16x with a great slot spacing. Compared to my current mb, its far more ideal and it was hella cheap. One thing about buying used, have a back up plan. Ask for warranty info and if the seller is willing to help with the warranty. On ebay, they do offer a lot of protection for the buyer and the dedicated "pro" sellers offer a return policy. The board I got does have a 14 day return window and is covered for defects. Worst case, I can get the small amount of money I paid for it back. This is great for buyers, but as a seller on ebay, you can me easily be ripped off. So I generally mark the item as non returnable and I always take pictures of the condition and serial numbers to ensure the buyer isn't trying to return a similar dead/defective item.

I found this thread guys: http://www.overclock.net/t/1187157/eyefinity-and-vram-scaling-discuss

This guy is pulling ~1.5gb of vram on his 6990 in BF3 with high settings in Eyefinity (Amd's Surround) with a single card. I also re-read the oc3d reviews and I'm smitten with the 590 redface.gif. It should still be a bit more powerful than a 670 and close to a 680 or better in some scenarios. With four cores doing Surround, I'm sure that I can raise the settings a bit. I should still come under budget compared to three 580 3gb. If I can sell my cards and sell the new replacement mb, I can break even with this upgrade using the used p67 mb.

It was only relatively recently that AMD allowed the driver to reveal what VRAM usage was (I remember discussing it with brettjv, although I cannot recall exactly when)... but I'd be interested in seeing what 590 Quad-SLI can do in Surround. biggrin.gif

A single 590 hangs with sli 670/680 and a 690:

I would only wonder how much of a boost quad will do biggrin.gif.
