Throw in dual 670 or 7950s and you're solid. Im going all out and getting three 7970s. tough thing is to find them at my budget.

I got to play PlanetSide 2 in surround this weekend for a little bit. GUI isn't centered and the text has issues. I am not sure what is causing the text issue, but other then that, it looks really nice.

biggrin.gif That sound pretty good. Anyway, the plan is to update 3x 7950. But three gard need new CPU, ATX case, water cooling... wink.gif

Yah I was originally going to write it for him alone but you never know what's hidden in the 58 pages here, I'll be doing GW2 mostly, an hour of skyrim at most a week and EVE online. I've basically cut a lot of my gaming down to null and GW2 takes 700mb at current 1440p settings. For the bigger games though yah I'm sure I could've done with the 4gb standard 670s but they weren't out (dang it all), I'll wait to see what he has to say about it as well though

Yeah, never PM if it means an answer that might help the whole community. wink.gif

From what you say, though, you might make it with 2GB cards. If it's using 700MB of VRAM at 1440p, that bodes well. VRAM usage doesn't scale linearly; framebuffer scales linearly, but texture usage doesn't. Chances are it's using ~100MB as framebuffer and another 600MB as texture memory. It may squeak in at enough under 2GB to be comfortable.

...

...

Folks, I've got a request. This VRAM usage has made me think... let's get a table together of how much VRAM games use at different resolutions. It doesn't have to be super accurate as it's going to be more an exercise in letting potential Surround/EyeFinity gamers know what they might expect in terms of VRAM usage, and therefore what they might have to buy. VRAM usage fluctuates anyway, but a reading on VRAM usage from MSI Afterburner or similar would be awesome.

I'll tabulate it all and put it in the OP. smile.gif

Just fire it off to me; I'll get started and when others throw some numbers in, I'll start putting it all together.

All values in MB. If I leave the units off it's easier to eye quickly.

For Sleeping Dogs 1.5/1.4 patch
6010x1080 = 1300MB across both cards [High settings, AA low] 306.02

I really like this idea. I'll report back later with more stuff. We should include drivers and patches!

Just because a game has some numbers doesn't mean results shouldn't be submitted! We can get better results the more numbers we have for each GPU and game. biggrin.gif

will do. but if I recall, amd cards read vram funny in AB. Gonna inquire about this with the 79xx club.
At the time I did that, I only had GTX460 SLI. There was no way it was gonna cope with Metro, so I didn't even bother. wink.gif That doesn't mean it can't be done now, however... biggrin.gif

Thanks for talking to the 7900 club. smile.gif I hope they agree to it, as it will benefit everyone.

I really like this idea. I'll report back later with more stuff. We should include drivers and patches!
Hm... thanks for the data.

So... info needed: (* denotes essential info)

*Game
Patch Level
*Hardware GPU
Driver Version
*Hardware CPU @ clockspeed
*Resolution
*Anti-Aliasing Level
*Settings (synopsis if custom)
*FPS
*VRAM usage

...

Saints Row: The Third, 1.0.0.1, GTX680, 304.79, Core i7 920 @ 3.8GHz, 5760x1200, 2xAA, Ultra (AA turned down from 8xAA), ~40fps, 1710MB

It'll vary from person to person; it's a bit like benchmarking - everyone'll get slightly different results, depending on how their system is set up, what other programs are running, etc... but it should give us ballpark figures on what users can expect in a given game.

Data in this format (comma separated values in that order, a space for a field if data not know and not classed as essential) would make my life a whole lot easier when compiling it! biggrin.gif

gw2 at 7680x1440 I never have been above 1.6gb on ram and I'm using sli 670 sc 4gb

BUT

The game has sli issues beyond all belief. Seems to be more evident in a triple screen setup than in a single screen on my tests with sli for some strange reason. I have to CONSTANTLY restart the game to get my fps back. Since the game is CPU dependent more than it is GPU, there is all kinds of bugs with sli and randomly the gpu usage will drop from 32-48% to 11-13% and the fps tanks on my i7 2600k @ 4.6 at 14-28fps. Once restarted standing in same spot back up to satisfactory fps once again. >_>

however it's awesome. Just look at my gw2 screenshots on previous pages :-p here http://www.overclock.net/t/780396/official-nvidia-surround/1690#post_18114540

I generally get 38-80 fps though unless all hell is breaking loose the fps might tank, but it even does at just 1 monitor too with 200 people on the screen.

The game doesn't work at all at 4320x2560 portrait, it flickers and crashes when trying to start the game. I really wanted to see it in portrait too.

Also don't stress over not buying the apple monitor, it literally is the same dang monitor but with an all metal casing with crossover. thumb.gif
