I think after crunching these numbers above, it looks like the 1080p setup will make the most sense. It will still require a little more money, but certainly nowhere near as bad the 1440p. redface.gif

Found a 27" 1080p Asus on Newegg for $300. DVI/HDMI/DisPort... dunno about the screen itself, though.

It's definitely a lot cheaper to go 1080p Surround. 1440p requires extreme expenditure, largely because you'll ideally need 4GB cards. frown.gif

And yes, go TEAM BROWN! grouphug.gif
Whatever you want to go with. wink.gif

Haha, when I've had guests I've had to endure some comments along those lines. wink.gif It's certainly immersive, that's why I like it. biggrin.gif I'm trying to customise Rainmeter to give me system monitors on the accessory screen. Most of the ones already online are too small, and don't scale up easily, if at all. I don't really want it fancy, I just want it neat, and large, so I can see things like network/HDD/CPU/GPU usage/temps, processes active, etc... by glancing up.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or Rainmeter is more complicated than I thought, though. Conky's easy (in linux) but Rainmeter... urgh.

The plx is faster but not dramatically (unless you're a hardcore bencher) compared to the nf200. These are under $200 used, most are sitting ~$150, and if you look hard enough you can score one for ~$100-125. If I recall, Nvidia doesn't support pcie 3.0 so there's no advantage to run z77 and with a bios update these boards can run IB.
Look for the Sniper3. I've seen those used for a couple of months go for $220.
Its a pita that to get the most out of MMG you need to dump a lot of cash frown.gif.
That's the truth of it. smile.gif

Most games do pretty well on a single 680. Get a second 670, three 1080p monitors and have at it. biggrin.gif

I'd be half tempted to try 3GB GTX580 SLI, however. Depends what you can get cheap (or not)... the problem there is the double VRAM cards tend to hold their value well, as they're more niche.

I ran three gtx 580 3gb a year ago and had to sadly sell them and their waterblocks since I ran into some money woes. The performance was phenomenal! I could max out Metro 2033 @ 3240x1080 with the exception of just one setting adjustment. The setup made Crysis 1.0 its B'atch. I do miss it, but I don't miss the astronomical cost I incurred plus the hordes of amd fanboys challenging me to benchmark duals rolleyes.gif

Two will be ok but get a good oc on them. Three will handle pretty much everything. These are still selling for a premium in the US (both new and used). The harder to find gtx 570 2.5gb are a nice choice too.

edit: I sold the monitors since they were tn and the left one was awful in portrait mode. That's when I learned ips is the way to go thumb.gif

sorry to disappoint, but theres no way in hell im tri sli-ing. I get better fps in games i play more anyways. 100fps in quite a few games at 7680x1440. Tri sli isn't necessary for what I play mostly and hell not really necessary at all unless your one of those 60+ fps people, bf3 at 35-70 on ultra but msaa off because you don't even need it at 1440p and no hbao just ssao at 7680x1440 I don't think there is much to improve(hell if I was that butt hurt about it, i'd put it all on just high with no msaa or hbao) ....a 3rd card might keep you close to 60 but your still gonna drop below 60 with tri sli.

but like I said bf3 isn't the only game out there I play and I see no reason for a 3rd card. I would rather sell my two 670 sc 4gbs and just buy two nvidia 7 series cards next gen instead... which I prob will do to improve my minimum fps

No gtx 685? biggrin.giftongue.gif

I hear yah. two 670s is fairly close to three 580s 3gb. With the extra vram, you should be fine. Tbh, we're mostly bickering about the most demanding games. I guess if your rig can conquer the highest mountain, it could surely do something smaller smile.gif. Love your rig specs and wish I could afford three 1440 screens redface.gif

This thread is killing me.. had to put my 3rd monitor "away" for a while, and had all kinds of surround issues (drivers etc) but i'm inching closer and closer to breaking down and selling my 470's and getting a single 4gb 670.. Wanna play bf3 in surround again soo bad, let alone get that edge in Day-Z... thumb.gif

Thank you! thumb.gif

The good news is I have decided to go the 1080p route for my second foray into Surround. I was only considering the motherboard switch if I went with 1440p Surround in order to get Tri-SLI, but it's still good to know what a price difference there is between the different motherboards that are just as capable. biggrin.gif
