I'm on wqhl 301.xx and I've noticed after a while of not gaming or stressing my graphics, three cores will do squat (10-30% load only) in games . Restart seems to get them all to play again( 99% load). Any one had issues with sli and the latest or recent drivers?

I've had this happen with amd cards but there's an option in their cp to disable this feature. I'm not sure if Nvidia has something like this.

This is my 670 1-4way scaling on BF3 campaign. And this is before I upgraded to the X79 platform. These benches were with i2500k @ 4.7ghz Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 Z77

Currently there is an issue with Nvidia drivers and BF3 where my GPU utilization tops out at about 70%. Nvidia is stated to be working on a fix with next drivers. I thought it was a 4-way sli issue, but Emmett states he was getting the same 70% utilization at times. With my current setup in BF3 multiplayer 64p maps FPS will range from 75-160fps. My average stays around 100fps. This is with ultra setting and FXAA high.

As far as the 4gb vs 2gb issue. 95% of games I run out of GPU performance before I run out of VRAM. Meaning Im shooting for a 5760x1080 goal of a constant (or close as I can to it) 120fps in 2d & 60fps in 3d. Increasing MSAA decreases my FPS performance too much where Im not getting the FPS that I want. So its up to you.

On thing to look into if you want the 4gb versions is the 256-bit Memory Interface limitation on all 600 series cards which I have heard have been a possible issue with 3-4way SLI

I have had same issue with but its rare with whql 301.xx, but it happens very often in 306.xx that makes it unplayable. Also I have only had this issue in BF3, no other games or benchmarks will this happen. Nvidia is suppose to be working on the issue with BF3.

I didn't notice it on 301.10, but on 301.42, 304.79 and newer I do. Drives me nuts, particularly when I'm in the middle of something important and suddenly my GPUs decided to drop to 1% usage and idle clocks.

I'd have tried 7950's rather than 4GB 670s if it wasn't for the fact that I've just had Catalyst 12.8 burn me on a 6970. Not badly, but enough to make me shy to run EyeFinity on my primary gaming rig. frown.gif

Thanks for the useful info, tbh I'm not a big fan of SLI I'd much rather a single powerhouse. But it definitely looks like I have to SLI if I'm to switch my setup. I think I may just wait till for the next crop of cards to be released, hopefully the surround performance will be boosted. I'm hoping to at least snag one of your monitors around xmas & build from there. That sucks about ur gpu utilization, but ur pulling pretty decent fps so all's not lost, I'm sure it still looks killer.

Triniboi82;

While these aren't the most accurate number I've ever reported (just glanced at the framerate display every few seconds as I was trying not to die) wink.gif

BF3 SP (first three levels): 5760x1200, all settings maxed (HBAO, ultra, etc etc) except for Anti-Aliasing at 2x: 31/95/54 (min/max/avg)

BF3 MP (48 player, can't remember the map): (same settings): 34/98/57 (min/max/avg) - note that here, despite the minimum actually being pretty decent, it 'felt' a lot lower. That may have been network lag joining in the party, though. frown.gif

BF3 MP: (64 player, again, can't remember map) (same settings): 33/83/51 (min/max/avg) - didn't feel 'laggy' this time; I guess ping was lower.

...

I was seeing 98% GPU utilisation on both GPUs. but when it did drop into the 60s for both when the framerate was in the 30s. Not sure what's causing that, really. Will do some more investigation.

VRAM usage was fluctuating from 2.2GB to 2.6GB.

Sorry to hear that.... at least it isn't a controller issue like on the SR-2 board I have rolleyes.gif.... couldn't install or do anything with it until i hooked up an older sata drive on the controller... suddenly i could install and use my SSD? wth

I got a chance to play Borderlands 2 @ 5880x1080 today and I have to say its quite a fun game in surround biggrin.gif

Played a small map today (only 16 players) and my average fps was in the 70-80 region. Rarely saw it go below 60. Haven't noticed any tearing yet, which is impressive as usually it drives me up the wall!

Haha, yeah. I know the feeling. wink.gif

I'm torn about BF3 so far. I want to like it, but I've not been able to play a game where I've not been killed by jets/helos or snipers seconds after spawning yet.

Part of it is that I've not played competitively for months, so I've got kind of sloppy. Then it's a whole different game compared to BFBC2, which is what I'm used to. Then there are jets. I hate jets. I also hate team-mates who can't work together; the people I played with in BFBC2 worked well as a squad, we each played a different role and usually did OK. wink.gif I had one game yesterday where I seemed to work really well with one other chap; worked well in a tank, captured flags (that our teammates seemed to enjoy leaving undefended) killed enemies... stuff like that. Next game he left and the team was full of people who were more interested in charging into mines set by the enemy than actually thinking.

Got quite tired of getting killed by the same lvl 100 guy by sniper rifle as well.

Much of these complaints will be addressed when I've a) played a lot more and b) found some servers that have people I can work with. Until then, I shall persevere! biggrin.gif

I had fun with my system yesterday. Played BF3 for a while, restarted... got no picture on the monitors. O_O Only thing that fixed it was a BIOS reset. Dunno why, and that annoys me.

To be honest, this Gigabyte mobo is on my list of 'to be replaced' anyway - it takes so long to post compared to my Asus Z77 board it isn't even funny, and all three Gigabyte boards I've had over the years have just been headaches from start to finish. This one is no exception. The slightest thing sets it off and makes it refuse to boot. Most of the time it's OK, but when it wants to be a headache... it's really a headache!

I'm torn about Borderlands and Borderlands 2. When I'm in the mood, they're quite fun. But most of the time, I just find them a repetitive grindfest full of fetchquests that show no real originality. frown.gif Some of the story missions are cool; it's just a pity it's so bulked up with repetition. wink.gif

I'm on 306.97 and I was able to play a few hours of Crysis 2.0 last night. Also, I haven't seen the distortions in the bottom edge of the center monitor. Had a pita of a time installing these drivers. Damn Nvidia, you're as bad as Amd rolleyes.gif
