hey guys,
I apologize upfront if this was already discussed, but I did a little searching and couldn't find what I needed to know.

Now onto my question.

My system specs:
Intel I7 920 Oc to 3.83 Ghz
6 Gig of ram
64 bit os
570 Gtx evga
1000w psu

Ok, in the very near future I want to try and do a 3 27inch monitor setup (Nvidia surround)
I haven't decide if I want to wall mount them, or have a desk mount.
I'm leaning towards wall mounted, so I can modify the curve anyway I want

Now my 1st question is, will 2 Gtx 580's sli be enough to run this setup? or should I go 2 Gtx 590's?
I have an older system and its not pci x 3.0

The monitors I want to get are these:
YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SEi 27" LED S-IPS 2560X1440 WQHD 6ms DVI-D PC Monitor

My 2nd question would be, what would you guys recommend, wall mount or buy a desk mount?
even though I am leaning towards wall mount just want some Opinions smile.gif

Thank for any help or info that you can give me to help me get this setup working to optimum performance smile.gif

Three GTX 580 3GB would be fine for three 1080/1200 monitors. IF you're planning to go with 1440 monitors, you might want to consider four 580 3gb, or three 7970s, or three 4gb 670/680s.

This will require some upgrades for a platform that can cope with such gpu upgrades.

If you don't mind toning down a few settings, two 590s will be ok (for three 1080). They'll struggle on three 1440 so I would skip them. I danced around with Surround and low vram cards (1.5gb and 1.2gb) and though gpu power can be achieved, vram becomes a factor immediately.

If you're ready to drop $1200 on three 1440, consider upgrading your platform first and possibly going with three 1080/1200 monitors.

edit: check my specs. I max mostly everything I game but it requires a lot of resources. Right now, i'm planning to add another psu to run my system and one card while my 1500w psu will run three cards. I can start oc'ing them with out worrying about power usage. My new case can do two psu so it should be a straight forward and essential upgrade.

You are gonna want some serious grunt for 3 of those monitors. I'd say 3 GTX 680's, the 4gb variety.

Personally I just have mine sitting on the desk. The stands don't bother me and I have all the cables hidden. I have no dramas adjusting them to the angle I want. Not that I tend to adjust them, once they are where you want they pretty much just stay there.

Welcome to OCN.

Neither one of those. If your want to run a massive resolution of 7680x1440 you are going to need al ot of GPU power and a lot of VRAM to run modern games. Gtx 590s are limited to 1.5gb of VRAM and likewise with 580sli, unless you get the 3gb versions. But if you go with 580 3gb sli (which i would suggest as bare minimum) then GPU performance would be bottlenecking pretty bad and in-game settings would need to be turned down a lot just to achieve 30fps in GPU intensive games.

I recommend either 670 or 680 SLI 4gb versions. And a higher CPU OC.

Thank you guys for the fast reply smile.gif
I have to be honest I know computers pretty well, but had no idea the horsepower needed to run those monitors..
Would be a sick setup, but its a lil more then i would want to spend.

What 1080/1200 monitor or even.. Led tv would work good with 2 590s, or 2 580s?

And even though i dont have pci exspress 3.0 would it be a big bottle neck to get a gtx 600 series? If i got 2 gtx 680 sli would that run those 3 monitors? Even with my cpu oc currently? And my non pci exspress 3.0 .. Lol?
Or would i still have to turn down alot of settings?

I want to stay 27inch to 30 inch for monitor size
Thank you again for all the replys.. I very much appreciate the help smile.gif

@Nightscar

Don't be discouraged. If you want to get started, i highly recommend start off with three 1080 monitors. If you want to do landscape, there's plenty of options at really great prices. I run Portrait so I went with ips screens. A bit more but worth it for the viewing angles. They've actually gotten cheaper. 3D monitors are also not too expensive.

Surround requires a lot of resources but it is possible to run a budget Surround setup. Three 1440 screens is a bit of a large leap unless you're ready to drop a lot of cash on a system upgrade. '

With a couple of 580 3gbs cards and your cpu @ 4.0, you can easily hit the water on three 1080 monitors.

If you're ready to drop a serious amount of cash on a new setup, there's lots of options available. If you can't, you still have some good choices to get you started in Surround.

If you go 5760x1080 you could go 670 or 670 SLI and 2gb would be very comfortable in 95% of newer games.
