5040x1050... include bezel compensation and that'll probably go up to about 5100x1050.

768MB cards'll choke really quickly at that res. But it'll be doable if you're really careful what settings you enable in games. I could do 6064x1200 on 1GB cards, but they suffered a lot if I pushed VRAM usage too far...

Not a bad plan, to be honest.

For me, Surround has been the biggest upgrade to my gaming experience I've had since I purchased a Voodoo 1 card in 1997. Nothing else has come close.

Of course, that is balanced by the fact that there are a heck of a lot of games out there that just don't like Surround at all, and regardless of what you do, just want to create headaches.

Even when I forced GTA IV to ignore VRAM limitations, I couldn't get 1GB cards to load the game in Surround - it just needs too much VRAM. Crysis looks amazing in Surround, but it's effectively unplayable for me above Medium details, even on a 2GB card. High has too great an impact on framerate, and Very High just crashes.

Might be worth choosing that route, yeah. Crysis eats VRAM at 1920x1200 quickly enough (Very High uses more than 1400MB anyway at that res!) and it just gets worse with Surround. 6064x1200 actually breaks through the 2GB barrier, although I don't know by how much as the only way to know for sure is get a card with >2GB VRAM. Which, at the minute, means a GF100-based Quadro card with 6GB costing upwards of four grand. If nVidia did 3GB GTX480s, I'd be all over them for Surround.

Have you tried portrait mode with your U2410's?

It just looks so much clearer than any single screen could ever want...

Nope, not tried portrait mode - something I need to do, but while the system works, I'm loathe to fiddle. When there is a driver out that fixes the GRID loading issue, and adds hotkey Surround/extended-mode switching, I'll give it a shot.

edit: Also, the side monitors (2405s) don't have viewing angles as good as the U2410 that is in the centre.
