In some games you just select 1080p and the game centers to your main monitor. In other games that doesn't work so you do need to break Surround and use "maximize graphics" option in NVCP.

Other triple-screen resolutions might be possible, but they'll be ugly unless you use 1:1 aspect ratio since LCDs don't scale well.

It doesn't do well in Surround. I tried it once out of curiosity, and spent the next hour fighting to get my system working properly again. The 258.96 drivers didn't like Surround crashing, they would cause endless pain trying to get it working again.

To be fair, it depends on the monitor. Some do scaling very well, and it behaves almost like free AA, at least in games. Others do terribly, and it looks like pants.

I've been reading that when you sli you don't double your vram? Is this true? If so why does Afterburner say that the memory on both cards is being utilized?

If you think of it like syncronization...

You are effectively getting one card to render one frame, while the other card renders the next, and they switch back and forth, so they are doing the exact same task at the same time, so its duplicating the workload, thus the same amount of VRAM used on one card to render that frame is used on the other.

Think of SLI and CrossFire like you would RAID1.

Ok I get it. So instead of having the combined ram to render the single frame they are dedicated to rendering their assigned frame. And that's why you need a ton of ram on a single card to render ultra high resolutions.

Yes, the way the framebuffer behaves, too, has a large impact on VRAM usage. If you set frame render ahead (which is usually controllable in drivers, but is often hidden) to help smooth the framerate, that will chew up tons of VRAM in Surround. Each frame takes up x * y * bpp, so for me, for example, every frame is 6064x1200x32=232857600 or... 27.76MB.

For one frame.

Suddenly that 2GB of VRAM doesn't seem so large. :lol: And it really drives home why higher memory bandwidth helps Surround so much. Remember that framebuffer doesn't take into account geometry/texture memory, either.

When you think about it that way, getting 45fps in Just Cause 2 isn't so bad - that's nearly 1.25GB of data every second!

As for Darksiders... bought it, not played it yet! It's on my steadily growing 'need to play' list. (Steam sales are terrible... well, they're good because I pick up loads of stuff 70-90% off... they're not so good because I think, "I'll get that while it's cheap...")

Suddenly that 2GB of VRAM doesn't seem so large. :lol: And it really drives home why higher memory bandwidth helps Surround so much. Remember that framebuffer doesn't take into account geometry/texture memory, either.

When you think about it that way, getting 45fps in Just Cause 2 isn't so bad - that's nearly 1.25GB of data every second!

As for Darksiders... bought it, not played it yet! It's on my steadily growing 'need to play' list. (Steam sales are terrible... well, they're good because I pick up loads of stuff 70-90% off... they're not so good because I think, "I'll get that while it's cheap...")
Yeah now I'm thinking my brand new 570s are a waste of money. Not nearly enough vram for my liking. What does tri sli do then? Does it render every third frame?

Yeah steam sales are fun! Thats why I have soo many games I haven't played but own too. I just started playing Darksiders it seems like a different story on the God of War game type. Which I loved all of those games so I'm sure this one will be fun. The hex key fix works perfect too. Scales perfectly no FOV problems.
