3 monitors on one card here.

I am curious about the resolution/positioning of those damn context menus now though.... Anyone have any input?

I just sold my old monitors (VE258Q x3) so I have about $600 to do a rolling system upgrade.

I've decided that 144hz screens are never going to be happy with SLI and I need to move toward TRI-SLI

Currently I'm in an mATX system (FT03 / Maximus Gene Z77 / 2600k)

I went mATX because space on my desk is limited but I think I can fit an FT02 sideways behind my monitor array.

So this is what I'm thinking:

1. Buy the FT02 (Black with Window)
2. Sell the current motherboard / CPU and maybe RAM
3. Buy the ASUS Z87 Extreme mobo and a 4770k
4. Sell the FT03 (maybe - I like it so much)
5. Buy a 3rd 680 (since prices are so good)
6. Skip the 780 and wait for the next gen Nvidia card

Alternatives:

1. go dual 780 in current system
2. go LGA2011 (when is X99 chipset due?)

Not sure:

1. FT02 case seems ideal, but I wonder if there is a better option. Wide cases will be a problem and since it will be sideways, the FT02 has a very clean look to the back of the case.

70% of my gaming is BF3 - will be BF4...

BF3 multiplayer is about 70% of my gaming also. A few things I have learned trying to perfect this game with my 5760x1080 @ 120hz setup.
  • over 2-way SLI Bf3 can have problems with gpu utilization in some maps. I have had 3-way & 4-way SLI
  • best current gpu setup is the strongest 2 GPUs that is in your budget. 780SLI would be great.
  • BF3 can be CPU limited in some areas also. Especially 64p large maps. Go with an X79 platform and a 6-core CPU if in your budget. X79 will be able to upgrade to IB-E if you desire. BF3 likes more physical CPU cores, higher clock speeds, and HT disabled. Look at the minimum framerates in BF3 64p 4core vs 6-core, HT on vs off. http://chipreviews.com/cpu/frostbite-2s-limit-6-core-performance-in-battlefield-3/3/

BF4 using a modified Frostbite 2 engine should in theory have similar attributes.

I know some people swear by them, but I would not have gone with IPS or 1440 screens even if they were free.

Very interesting and insightful.

It sounds like there is a very good chance I am more CPU bound than GPU bound. I play DM and Gunmaster with everything on low to maximize FPS but performance is inconsistent.

My 2600k is running at 4.4 just using the ASUS automatic OC and I've thought about going manual but from the article you posted, I don't think a few hundred more mega hurtz will matter enough.

Now I'm wondering how much I can OC a 3930k in my FT03. I used headphones that block out the sound so I would be willing to increase my noise level somewhat.

Maybe I can keep my FT03 and even my 680s and just go big with a Rampage IV Gene + 3930k....

1080 ips screens are becoming very cheap. The benefit of IPS is in the viewing angles; specifically the left monitor since it tends to gray out. It really comes in handy when you run portrait mode.

You can get a 22" 1080 ips screen for ~$120-140.

1440 is just a higher resolution. And its a bit more expensive. Since they're pricier, they tend to include ips already.
