1440 is just a higher resolution. And its a bit more expensive. Since they're pricier, they tend to include ips already.

Nothing wrong with any of that - but to me, it does not exist until it can run as fast as my current monitors (VG248E x 3).

No compromise on speed - none.

We've yet to get a manufacturer launch a 120hz ips monitor. Some ips monitors can be overclocked/modded to achieve this. So, its one or the other. To have both, you'll need to invest into a moddable one.

So a user on [H] just tested SLI 780 on 7680x1440... No Vram issues until he enables AA.

Just made that an 1+ in my books... Enabling AA incurs a drastic drop in fps even without the extra Vram.

About DVI Cables on Tri-Sli... Nvidia states that you need to use the top card for the middle screen, Middle Card for the left and lowest for the Right. If you mix them up the cards you get a performance hit.

Problem is... I think PLX chip mixed the first two togather mad.gif So physically the top one was actuially middle one. I got about 3-4 fps increase thumb.gif

You need to buy a Qnix Korean PLS and see how the OCing goes. Mine does 120hz with minor artificats and 96mhz daily.

Vram sweet spot is currently 4GB without any AA.. with AA it goes up crazy but I never saw the need for AA at 2560x1440 biggrin.gif

Very interesting and insightful.

It sounds like there is a very good chance I am more CPU bound than GPU bound. I play DM and Gunmaster with everything on low to maximize FPS but performance is inconsistent.

My 2600k is running at 4.4 just using the ASUS automatic OC and I've thought about going manual but from the article you posted, I don't think a few hundred more mega hurtz will matter enough.

I do believe the 6-core CPUs will be more future proof. Especially with the new consoles releasing this year will have 8-core CPUs. Game developers will develop game engines based on these new consoles architect, therefore having many game engines coding towards more multicore CPU utilization.

Very likely that your inconsistent performance could be related to CPU limitations. BF3 settings on low will create less GPU requirements and increase CPU requirements. What is your range of GPU use with 680 SLI? How low does it drop?

Most 3930k's can OC to 4.6-4.8ghz on a good air cooler or H100i. Watercooling will be able to push it to 4.9-5.1ghz depending on CPU chip quality and motherboard.

Regarding 3-way SLI i did find some additional bottlenecks somewhere in the GPU pipeline when I had 670 3-way SLI & running BF3 multiplayer (no problem with vram limits). As my GPU use was dropping with 670 3-way vs 2-way SLI. At first I thought I was CPU bound. But now that i have 2 Titans in SLI and my SLI GPU horsepower is greater than 670 3-way SLI if i am CPU bound my GPU use should still be low. BUT I run with my Titans GPU use in the high 90%s. So the limitation is somewhere in 3-way SLI configuration and BF3's game code.

You can try out the 3930k + RIVG and see if 680 SLI will be enough GPU horsepower for you. The 3930k will help minimum framerates greatly and stabilize performance. But with 680 SLi you will still need to turn down settings around medium with no AA to keep that >100fps where you monitors thrive at, and motion quality is just gorgeous. If thats fine with that go with that setup. You can always upgrade your GPUs later if you decide you want to turn up settings and AA. Keep in mind BF4 will be more demanding. Guaranteed.

Have you tried 2d Lightboost? The advantage in 1st Person shooters is amazing! Especially close quarter combat. Motion quality is just crystal clear, you can actually run circles around your enemies in perfect clarity for circling headshots. 60hz monitors just have trouble keeping up in that aspect. Only problem with Lightboost is it makes your screens darker and anti-gloss film removal is recommended, but difficult. I would say lightboost 120hz has almost 2x the motion clarity of regular 120hz, or even 144hz in your case. Its similar to the motion clarity of 60hz to 120hz jump, if not more.

I pulled ~1.2gb and but I'm running high w/ no aa. Seems like Metro LL isn't that vram hungry.

Last Light's vram use is definitely out of the ordinary for todays standards. The games textures are one of the best i have seen and vram use is low compared to its complex textures. I wonder if this is why it has poor scaling with multiple cards.

I mean look at these complex textures. I can even see cracks and grout in the cement floors.




Are you going to go with 780 SLI King4x4?
