[Official] nVidia Surround - Page 55

My cards, and maybe this depends on which driver set I'm using, will idle differently. Last night the 1st card was @ 51Mhz, while the other two were @ 772Mhz. Other times all three will be @ 51Mhz, and then other times they'll be @ 405Mhz.

It also is somewhat dependent on the option in the nVidia Control Panel for Power Usage whether it be Prefer Maximum or otherwise.

How do you have your 3 monitors plugged into your cards? i.e. 1 DVI per card?

Maybe check that you have them plugged in the middle display slot of each card as recommended by nVidia, or try putting 2 monitos in the top card and one in the middle of the card underneith and see if it makes a difference.

In order to run Tri-SLI Surround, you have to have one monitor plugged into each video card, it seems - I tried plugging two monitors into one card and the configuration tool told me to not to do that.

Currently, yes, I have 1 dual-link DVI hookup per monitor. I didn't know that the middle DVI slot was recommended over the outer one - is there a reason for that? I just connected to the outer one because it was easier to plug into, since I've got a Radbox and radiator hanging off the back, but I could switch to the middle if it made a difference.

Yeah, the only way to run it with three cards other than with one connection per card is if you are dedicating the third to PhysX.

The outer DVI connectors are the recommended connectors, per nVidia:

Those look like the inner connectors, since they're in the middle (insofar as you can call them either). Confusing stuff, never saw that before and the config wizard didn't complain. Will try that and see if it makes a difference.

I suppose they can be considered the outermost DVI connectors.

Here's the page from which I got the info.

Hey,
I had a chance to play on a 3D setup this weekend.

setup was 1x 23.6 Acer 3D powered by a NV 570 and NV 3d vision kit

I was sitting back from the monitor and I could NOT imagine playing with 3 monitors because the glasses seem cheap and blocked my vision. Has anyone else experienced this? is the viewing angle to the other two monitors possible?, the glasses just seem like they would block it out. (maybe just my oversized head)

My future plan was to buy 3x 3d Acer and 2x 580s and course 3D vision kit... but after playing on a single monitor this weekend I am not sure if I like it and glad I didn't move forward with the purchase.

I also don't know if it just takes more time to get used to it but I was really getting owned... again not my system and taking some time to get used to it would have helped but I was having a hard time getting a fell for 3D. Seemed to just fine without the glasses on though.

Sorry maybe I should start a new thread...?

You raise a point that I'd considered before, albeit not that much since my main interest was 2D surround at 120hz. To answer your question: yes, part of your peripheral vision is blocked. I would say that, at a normal viewing distance seated at a desk, you won't see about 30-40% of what's going on in either side monitor using a 23" x 3 setup in 3D.

Not sure what you mean about "getting owned" though. Are you talking about MP? You don't want 3D for that since it limits your frames to 60 FPS and forces V-sync, which causes input lag.

What games did you play? If you are not 'wowed' by the experience now, you most likely won't warm to it over time. I was extremely impressed with 3D for the first couple weeks, and then the novelty sort of wore off. It's still enjoyable in some games some of the time, but I ended up finding the smoothness of the 120hz the much more attractive feature.

Also, two 580s is really not good enough to drive 3DVS at respectable framerates (45+ FPS) outside of Source games, at least not on high settings.

Ya I had a feeling... I think I will just do it in steps anyways. Get the cards (likely waiting tell next gen of NV cards). then the monitors. then the glasses if I do go full 3D.

I considered going 3D for bit, but then I really didn't like the idea of such a performance hog. I'm still really happy with 2D and the experience. At this point I'd have to purchase all new displays for it as well.
