[Official] nVidia Surround - Page 70

icy_cool_quad - added. Sorry for the delay, least few days have been crazy and show no signs of letting up. Just popped on quickly.

How is everyone? Systems all still going well?

...

What little free time I've had, I've been playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution... and I just can't seem to like it. I want to like it, but I keep thinking, "the original did x better" or "urgh... cover system". You can't even accuse me of rose-tinted-spec syndrome, 'cause I replayed Deus Ex the week before DX:HR came out in the UK - with DirectX 10, high-res textures and Surround! I'm really sick of that hacking minigame...

Recently upgraded to a 2600k as my original 2500k went into a 24/7 folding rig!

hi guys i am currently using 2 6970's on crossfire for my eyefinity setup with samsungs thin bezel triple monitor md230x3.. but im growing iritated from its lack of good crossfire drivers and slow performance at 5760x1080 resolution.. and recently i just got a gift from asus thailand for a mars gtx 590 ROG, but asked them to replace it with 3 GTX 580's in SLI.. (i own a custom gaming pc company in south east asia called Naga Gaming) so got them for free..

i just wanted to knoow what you nvidia guys think about the driver support for SLI (cus ati's ccc is crap when u wanna go multi GPU) and how do i connect surround with 3 gtx's? do i need dp or just dvi? thanks for the help guys and hope u welcome me into the NVidia surround club as i've always been an ATI boy

Congrats! The beauty of Surround is that you can use the dvi connectors on the cards. I plug each dvi into each card but you can do two dvi on one card and the 3rd dvi on either of the two remaining cards. I have never had any driver issues with either sli or surround. I know how you feel about amd as I withdrew from three 6950/70s because of the headaches with Eyefinity and amd drivers/crossfire. Use this link for more info:

Only "problem" with Surround (except for lack of easy switching between extended/Surround modes) is that it's wholly dependent on SLI support. For 98% of games, that's not an issue. For one or two games, it's a monumental headache and single-digit fps - Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the one that springs most readily to mind from 'recent' releases. But most stuff is fine.

Drop a line in the Surround Gaming thread (link in sig) and I'll add you to the list of members.

wermad is correct; no DisplayPort necessary for Surround; it's all DVI based.

Anybody running a surround setup with the monitors in my sig? If so does everything work ok? Was reading on newegg where a guy said that the Asus 3D monitors were not working correctly when trying to game in Surround.

there's no reason that 3 of the same monitors should not work in surround...

the reviewer on newegg possibly didnt use all the same connectors, i.e DVI, when connecting all three monitors, or maybe he was trying to use only a single card..

Cheers,

Ishi

Seen a big increase in performance? Or is it a better clocking chip or something?

Newegg is one of the last places I'd trust reviews from...

This. There are quite a lot of possible reasons for Surround to go 'wrong' if trying something exotic. I'm only glad my combo of 2405's and 2410 worked...

With hyper-threading enabled, it takes roughly 1.36v folding stable at 4.6ghz...

Compares to my 2500k @ 4.8ghz folding stable, so I don't think it's the best chip, could be my lack of knowledge with fine-tuning an OC as well, as I am extremely new!

Considering it has 8t, it does really well to keep the PPD high when I am actually using the PC compared to the 2500k having a sharpe drop off.

So I'm quite happy to have spent the money, not to mention that if BF3 can utilize more then 4c/t then I'll have made a fantastic decision!

I'll also be able to turn it into a folding rig when IB comes out, or if I jump at SB-E...
