I am presently running a pair of 670's in 5760 X 1200 surround (three 24" Samsung 245T's, I do NOT like the look and feel of 1080P monitors). When I first built this rig I put a pair of GTX 580's in it but after three years the GPU fans started to fail so EVGA replaced them with the 670's which run surround very well. I use surround for my normal work Apps (outlook on one screen, a few Excel sheets, perhaps publisher or Sony Vegas running also Etc. on other screens) and I also game in Surround, not shooters but Skyrim, Civ 5, the upcoming Shroud if the Avatar Etc. type of games. My present monitors are 60 Hz and they are getting long in the tooth although they still look good. I will start up my new rig using them but they will be in line for upgrade.
My questions for this august group as I sit here waiting for a ASUS RIV Black to become available for my new build are:
1. Do you think that a pair of GTX 780's (or perhaps the GTX 780 Ti's that were just announced) is all I need for surround? After all my present 670's are doing the job for me now.
2. If I get three new 120 Hz monitors will that take more graphics power? (I do not intend to run in 3D)
3. I have never used a 4th auxiliary monitor, what do you use it for? How do you set it up? I see it does not have to be the exact same as the three surround monitors but in general should it be the same frequency? Size? Resolution?
4. What am I missing and what suggestions do you have for someone like me that has successfully been using surround for some time but who is no expert by far. In fact the more I read here the more I see that I do not know.
Thanks in advance......
