I switched from 3x ancient acer $200 black friday special monitors for one predator. The first predator arrived with a broken stand, but both required a good 3 foot distance to cancel out the viewing angle issues, oh and the OC panel is buggy as hell, n settings rarely save, thus oc is buggy. Both suffered from random backlight flicker as well. Last but not least - the colors suck, n im colorblind.

Basically - im returning it and want a glorious 60hz+ 4k display, so advice would be great.

Oh, the 3440x1440p also confuses my shield 2017 pro tv.

Hi all.

I know this is the nVidia thread, but seeing as how the AMD one died 4 years ago, I thought I'd ask here.

I'm finally hoping to get into wide screen gaming by scoring some cheap 60hz 1080p IPS monitors for Black Friday. I tried stretching games over two monitors for just a few minutes and I'm hooked.

So far I've considered:

Dell S2316M $105

Acer g247HYL $90 after rebate.

Asus VC239H $80 after rebate.

Of course the Acer just went out of stock.

So far I like the Dell the best. Any other suggestions? I'm looking for thin bezel, 1080p, IPS, and cheap. Not much else is important.

I appreciate any input you all may have.

I would go for Freesync monitors if you can get away with spending a little more. I don't know what video card you're using, but surround setups are fairly demanding, even at 1080p. Freesync will ensure you get nice, smooth gameplay. I've done surround with standard monitors and now use 3 G-Sync monitors. The latter provides a much better experience. But with you being an AMD user, you get the benefit of not having to pay the "Nvidia Tax" for G-Sync and can use Freesync instead.

Dell S2318H
Samsung C24F390

I have one of the Samsung monitors as a backup(and they're on sale). It's pretty decent, but be aware it's VA and comes with the flaws VA has(not that IPS is free of flaws either). Just don't try using the overdrive for faster response time, you will get pixel overshooting.

If you absolutely need to get monitors for around $100 each, then I would go with the Dell you listed. The Asus and Acer monitors you listed exaggerate how thin the bezels really are, they're almost double what you see in the picture. The Dell on the other hand has a fairly accurate picture.

Going to take this opportunity to contribute to the thread with my setup. 3 x Dell S2417DG running off a single 1080 Ti. Most modern games require medium settings due to 1440p, but regardless, G-Sync ensures I get smooth gameplay. Been hooked on Borderlands 2(yeah, I'm late to the party, I know) which runs at a pretty respectable 100 FPS.

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, I make my limited space work for me lol.

The ASUS monitors you listed would be fine for surround. As someone else mentioned above, They are not as thin as the picture would indicate. But they are still pretty thin for surround gaming. I've run monitors with bezels much wider without issue playing in surround. So if thats whats in your budget you will be happy with those.

My setup hasnt changed in a while now. I tend to stick with it when i find what works for me. There is free program called Flawless widescreen you should check out and download. Its rarely an issue anymore but Certain games reveal design issues in triple screen such as poor placement of the HUDs etc. This program fixes these for many games. Again it is free. Have fun
Heres a shot of my rig for posterity.. Specs are all in my sig.
These are 24" screeds with a 22" +1. The surround currently uses 27" screens with the 22" +1. If you havnt found a good triple screen stand yet, shoot me a PM. There are some good ones out there cheap.

Sadly my sig rig is up to date (or at least the description of it is lol), so xfire 6970s. Laugh all you want, but people did it in 2010, I assume it still works today. I don't want VA, I've had thes ame TN panel for the last 8 years and I'm ready to upgrade. (Though I figured I'd go up at least one res notch in that time frame but oh well.)

I hate that they lie on the bezel pictures, and never list specs. That definitely puts the dell at the top of my list if I go for it.

Freesync is definitely cool, but I don't even know what my next GPU will be Probably AMD because of the Fine WineTM and Freesync. But nothing will be in sync with my current setup, and I couldn't afford to upgrade if I did get the free sync. It may be better to just go 21:9 1080P now and wait. If I don't get synced monitors, I'll definitely want that when I upgrade GPUs, so that would mean upgrading again to 3440x1440 or whatever is cool at the time.

I would'a passed on some wisdom, but so far they've all hit it on the head.

I don't want VA, I've had thes ame TN panel for the last 8 years and I'm ready to upgrade. (Though I figured I'd go up at least one res notch in that time frame but oh well. )

Hell I played surround successfully with a single GTX770 when I started to make sure I liked it.I was hooked. You of course will have to adjust your settings to fit your individual equipment but it will be a fun gaming experience. I have also found it absolutely invaluable for multi-tasking.

It does suck. Were the ones being targeted because they know why we want them.
As for gsync and freesync, I fully understand and appreciate what they do but have never personally found it necessary. Even in surround.

As for the stand. It can really make or break the experience for me. They use to cost so much more. EasymountLCD will almost certainly have something you like or give you an idea of what you might want. I use this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JG7G2E/ref=psdc_490624011_t1_B00SYVE3CI <$80 You can use the base stand or remove it and mount it to a table top or desk with a single bolt. I can vouch for it easily holding at least 27" screens but you should still watch the screens you get to keep an eye on the weight. Lighter is better when you get up to 27" screens on these types of mounts. I also liked the design because it let me make something at home to mount the +1 screen cheap. if you end up with this stand or one with a ~2" OD tubing for the "spine" give me a shout and I will tell you how to make a nice looking +1 screen mount over the center screen for <10 bucks.

Yeah, I've ran triple monitor before, but they were all different sizes and aspect ratios. How does the aero snap work in eyefinity/surround? It I love to toss a fullscreen youtube video in one monitor, but I can't imagine that would work when windows thinks it's one big one.

I havnt had an issue with items not snapping to the screen i place them in for a long time. Mostly only legacy software will do that anymore.
