overclocking help

Thread Starter
thing is i have a asus k8n with nforce3 chipset and a 2500+ 64 bit sempron and i want to know how i can get the best of it. i've seen some results of 2400 mhz. anyway i have only the cooler that came with the cpu package and it works fine. if anyone could actually tell me a bios config that would get the best of it without having any problems. i'm a newbie in this. my ddram is at 400 mhz. hope you guyz can help me.10x

well, first of all, can you fill out your pc spec in your user cp

First you will want to increase the FSB speed, leave the voltages at first until you get more confident. the only 2 programs ive used are easy tune 5, it came with a gigabyte mobo, so i dont know if you can download it. and ive used speed fan which has a clock option in so you can set your FSB speed higher, this you can download and is worth getting

when you want to push you system, you may have to start changing the voltages.

also watch your ram speed and the cpu temp, you will probably have to invest in a new cpu cooler if you really want to get the best out of it.

when overclocking, only do it a bit at a time, then run a program like super pi to check if its stable at that speed.

if it doesnt want to start it will most likely be caused by your ram, you may have to put the ram speed down to get a good overclock

My friend, here's the most complete OC guide I've ever seen. I'm sure you will find it useful as it has all the bios settings you need to OC your CPU to the max.
http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=300
Since I have the same mobo you have I'll give you a tip: if you want to OC over 260 bus speed update your bios to version 1007 or any other that came after, because the K8N has problems booting at such high OCs, and your CPU is likely to go evan higher.

You can try these settings, I got my 2600+ Sempron to 2.5ghz ..

313x8 (XP-90C with AS5 on the CPU) at 1.525v
Memory 3:4 2-2-2-5 .. so like 227mhz, or ddr470

You can lower the memory ratio but might suffer in that area of performance.

Let me know how it goes, but those are my settings and I'm on a DFi NF3 UT LP
