recommend me a sound card, please

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I am lost in choosing the good soundcard for my needs. Years ago, I made a mistake and bought x-fi extreme audio, and later I found, that its fake x-fi. I dont want to do similar mistake now.

I am mostly playing the games with my 5.1 roccat cave headset. But I also listen to music with my UR-40s and I also want the card to have 2xcinch connectors, to connect my audio receiver. The games are still the priority Nr. 1

The card should be PCIE, because my only PCI slot is blocked by watercooling ...

I see there are basically just two competitors in this field one is creative with its x-fi and second is asus with its xonar series. I am lost about what advantages they have - can xonar compete with x-fi in games, how about eax 5 and other features ?

Also my budget is about 100$, I can spend some more, but only if its reasonable.

I have found some used x-fi titanium, xonar D2X, x-fi Fatality ... how they compare to new line of cards ? Is it the same, or they are obsolete and should not be considered ?

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

When you say that your budget is about $100, are you referring to USD? I mean, I noticed that your location says Czech Republic. If you're referring to USD, then I think that right now the X-Fi Titanium and the Xonar DX are the best cards in this price range. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that the X-Fi Titanium might be better for games.

I only linked to Newegg there because they have really nice product pages.

This is most certainly very helpful. Too many people these days don't even mention their currency or even their budget. So this certainly deserves a big Thank-You.

Found one X-fi titanium, bulk for about 75 and Xonar D2X for about 100 in sale. I like the D2X because it has 6 x 3,5 connectors and also 2 x cinch ... titanium only has opticals and I cannot use them, as I need very long cable (and pull it through the hose in my wall to audio system, which is deadly for optical ..)

What will I miss in games with xonar D2X in comparation to x-fi ?

The D2X may have six 3.5" jacks, but you may never used some of them:

I don't have a similar graphic for this X-Fi Titanium (this is the one I have been referring to all along), but I think its inputs and outputs are identical to the D2X except for perhaps one of the jacks for surround: I mean, I think that the reason why the X-Fi Titanium has 1 less jack for surround is because it combined like perhaps the Side and Back surround onto one jack (which still works fine).

So, the Titanium has more than just optical inputs.
