Attempt to OC Presler 930 - Page 3

Thread Starter
sorry 4 the late response, already tryed to update the bios, now have the latest BETA. However still no luck of getting higher then 3.3 Ghz. I think it does has something to do with the SLI and Nvidia chipset. And as I said, I don't believe the CPU is below 5 degrees because it is impossible as the water itself is warmer then 5 degrees and as you said, physically it's impossible. I'm guessing it's about 10-15 degrees idle and 20-30 degrees load.

I don't think it is ever possible to reach a 4.0 Ghz speed with this board if you don't want to go over 1.40 Volts. I've also tryed upping the NB and SB voltages but still no luck. I have however been able to get my Memory and CPU to a (stable) FSB of 868 Mhz.

If anyone has any other tips/ remarks i'd love to hear them. (except the one: go buy a new mobo! )

I am going to build a new system using a 930 pentium D cpu and was looking at different mobos. I was considering getting the one you were using until I did some reading. It seems that board either overclocks around 30% or it doesn't at all, I think the guys at HARDOCP weren't even able to get a 1% overclock on it. The second thing I've read about that board is that if you are using passive or liquid cooling on the cpu you have to use the fans that came with the board to cool the heat pipes on the north and south bridge. Otherwise they overheat like mad, that could be your problem, otherwise you just got a bum board and are basically out of luck.

I hear nVidia chipsets go well w/ AMD, and Intel chips need Intel chipsets to go along.
